Fractal Talk

Oh damn you’re right. My bad. Carry on. THAT thing was really cool. But IIRC the Atomic guys name is Gallo and he is a one man operation. Lives somewhat close to me in NJ. I remember talking to him on social media, back when I participated in social media.

Also, if memory serves, the ISP guys came from Rocktron. I had an original Chameleon and thought it had the same kind of thing going on. Back in the old days, digital was just digital and wasn’t modeling anything. That was the chameleon. Sounded pretty good. Used it quite a while.
I'm pretty sure Atomic is Tom King...

Would definitely be a....dare I say it....gamechanger for ease of use and being able to make quick presets just using the hardware.

I was kinda shocked you couldn’t when I first got my Frac units and figured out what blocks libraries were. I just assumed those would auto-import. I even like to use them for quick IR toggling. Would be a big QOL feature imo.

Bit afraid to admit this. But I took the Axe3 + FC12 to rehearsal yesterday.

I just wasn't vibing with it. We're working on completely new material, and none of the tones are set in stone, nor the parts... so I was wanting to switch stuff around and experiment a lot more than your typical rehearsal... and I just found the whole thing really draining and uninspiring.

1. I can totally see that, and not just with that piece of gear, but others like it.
2. What were you running it through?
3. How long have you had it?

P.S. - I am not a Fractal user, nor do I excuse their gear as that kind of automatic "user error" that we have seen in the past, i just want to help.

That's the weakest part of the current Fractal UX to me - experimenting and concocting stuff on the fly. I just...can't seem to do it. Hooked up to FM9-Edit....sure. But just using the buttons and knobs? Agony. Just moving blocks around requires waaaaaaay too many menus and screens.

I guess I've been fortunate that the factory presets + @2112's great multiscene presets scratch most of my itches, so if one type of amp preset is bothering me, I just find another somewhat related one that usually gets the job done.

I was using it in front of my JVM. Just purely for effects. I've been an Axe3 owner since .. well.. I bought my first one in 2021 sometime, and quickly followed up with an FC12. I sold those in early 2022 because I figured I didn't need it... but 3 months later I really missed it. So I bought a MKII Turbo and FC-12 in May 2022.

I'm by no means a n00b to the platform. Maybe I just had an off day... I don't know. Just found myself wishing I had a stack of Boss pedals at my feet.

Yeah defo. Can't really disagree with that at the moment.

What I can't figure out is .... why did this never come up with Helix in 8 years of owning it? I never really found myself struggling with that in the same way.

I'll go to bed super happy with some tones, wake up, plug back in and hate everything about what I fell asleep loving.

Life is strange.

This is going to sound a little too butt-smoochy; but I don't have that problem with FAS. It could be that I usually leave the III connected to my studio monitors and use it that way? If anything; I get stuck in a rut just cycling through the same poverty drop D riff collection because I get stuck on how good it all sounds :love:guiness:rofl

I would say there's your answer right there....off the Fractal and use your helicks.........

I had a couple of thoughts in response...

You may have been happier using it in the loop instead of in front of the JVM.

Did you try that configuration at home with satisfactory results and didn't like it at rehearsal or was that the first time you tried it that way at concert volume?

Are you used to doing your tweaking with Axe Edit rather than on the UI?

Is the JVM with the accompanying speakers the ideal amplification for using with the Axe FX?

I can certainly see how Boss pedals would have been simpler and don't know why you had better results with the Helix.

If you want to give it a second chance I'd dial it in at home using the 4CM or time based effects only in the loop. Build presets specifically for that amp. Dedicate an hour or so for tweaking them at sound check.

If all of that sounds like too much of a PITA and you're committed to using the JVM, a Helix may be a better choice for you since you were happier with the results you had with it.
