Biggggggg Dummmmmb Amps!!!

It's really a spectacular amp. I kinda had stopped using mine for a few months then decided to randomly take it to a gig and had a total reawakening. Of course I traded the amp a few weeks later but I needed that Mark V good good and value wise trade seemed like a no brainer lol. Definitely want to get another one in the future

That says a lot, SOTS! :beer

There are very few amps I miss or would purchase again. Most of them
were just flavours that I licked and put back on the shelf and passed along. :idk

Try to try.

When something blows up my skirt I tend to take notice, since I am so jaded
and old and worn out and defeated!

Kind of cool comparing it to a Dual Rectifier made 20 years prior to the Roadster.
The Trem-O-Verb is way looser and raw. It has a more unrefined quality. I can kind
of hear where the Roadster is a bit more refined and polished. How Mesa tweaked
that circuit (those circuits) over time, and what they arrived at. There's something
in the Mids of the Homester that is not at all present in the Trem-O-Verb.

Both of them are going to inspire me to do my space/studio and feature them as
amps I use with my pedalboard ina W/D config. It's going to happen. :beer

I'm not moving these anywhere.

I've had it for about 10 years now. It's been in storage for about half that time, because I no longer need a Big Dumb Amp, but it's possibly one of the greatest Big Dumb Amps ever made so I don't want to sell it :bonkWhich ones have you had / do you have?

*edited for trying to communicate with too much blood in the caffeine system*

That's awesome. Promise to never put it in storage again, k?

My first Verellen was a Loucks, and then Ben built me the ultimate
Marshall. JMP on one channel, JCM800 on the other channel, and
then an added gain stage that was footswitchable on the JCM800
that brought another 12AX7 into play and turned it into a rager.

I probably should not have sold it, but I didn't like it as much as the
JCM800 I had, and it was a little loose. All of Ben's amps (to me) have
had some dose of that sludgy depth and looseness. I was just wanting
more of a percussive feel like a Plexi or 800 have. :idk

Here it is.

I still have a Coop Combo. As you may know that is Ben's take on a Fender Blackface style amp.
Probably not big and dumb enough for this thread.

I bought this amp in Hawaii, had it shipped to CA, where FedEx decided to throw it off a truck or something.

Its so heavy AND awkward to carry. "Lucky for me" FedEx blew up both the original blackbacks when they dropped it AND refused to compensate me despite the insurance I paid for.

So, I had my tech put it in a headshell and a buddy of mine built me a cab for a pair of 12" creambacks. Even at outdoor gigs, this thing is just too dang loud in its sweet spot. Complete overkill. Has not stopped me from bringing it and blowing back some hair, lol.

Not much else compares to the absurdity of the Marshall, but this is the rest of my big dumb amp pile...

Mark IV, weighs 90lbs at least, lol

Thank god someone put casters on this Pro Reverb!

Both of my Fryette heads (D120 and Sig:X) clock in right at 50lbs or so. D120 is a touch heavier. Also, the placement of the transformers on the D120 makes it a more awkward carry. They are center and to the side. Sig:X has them on opposite sides.

But the dumb part is I play them through a Port City OS 2x12 loaded with EVs. That cab is stupid heavy. No casters. Upside is there's no need for a gym membership. Just move it from one side of the room to the other and back and I'm good.

Greg, I’m in lust with your SG Jr.

Crate BV300 - 300 watts & 80 lbs

80 lbs from a top?!? Wtf!

And I thought my redknob "The Twin" was stupidly heavy already, but it's 77 lbs for a combo (fwiw, once I changed the horrible stock speakers, it turned into an incredible pedal platform). But, on the XXL dumb side of things, I ran it through a 70s Orange 4x12 cab for a while (unplugging the internal speakers). No idea about the exact weight, but that cab should be around 100 lbs at least.

I have the later version 1994 "Evil" Twin Amp and yes, they're unreasonably heavy bastards but can serve as perfect pedal platforms!

Which can actually be said for a lot of "big iron" amps, very probably due to their headroom and huge cleans that actually stay clean even at deafening volume levels.

Not talking 11 here, noon-ish is usually where they start to just slightly break up, but that's already ear-wrenching after all.

Dude I bought it from was a total gent. Very proper and buttoned up. Could tell
he took great care of the amp. FS and Slipcover included. Also, a set of tubes. He
met me half-way, and came down on his price even more than listed to get me
to take the leap. Kind of insane that he sold it so cheap. Told me GC offered $450
for it. :facepalm

I have to give an assist to @TSJMajesty for this one. :beer Not an hockey assist either.
More like an Half-Court Alley Oop assist that I could not help but throw down. Truth is
this big, dumb amp was not even on my radar until he brought it to my attention. Thanks,
Tom. Could not have done it without you. :beer
$450 OMG. :facepalm
