Anybody else getting sick of modellers?

Yep. I think thats the smart approach. I also believe in getting out of your comfort zone a bit.

For example. I now have a Marshall + IR. I use the bias, bias x, sag and hum as described by some people on this forum. Nice! .. But when I start googling.. I also read that a LA COMP is a smart move at the end of the chain because that sounds better... SO, here I am again... googling and not noodling (made that one up myself) about ideal settings for the LA comp.

I could also just kick it out .. and leave it be. I am still finding that right balance between what you are saying (just not use it) and trying to learn how to use it.
Nothing wrong with learning how shit works if that’s what you want to do, but a lot of people like to blame the modeler for them tweaking and not playing when they’re creating the distractions for themselves. I have “play time” and then once or twice a week I just go bananas with fx I don’t normally use or playing with cabs/mics so my tweak time doesn’t stop me from getting stuff down on the instrument.

If anything, the Helix made my playing time longer. Cant get enough of the pentatonic scale while trying out the Fender and Marshall amps.

Perhaps for some us who needs more external disicpline, getting a Fender Tone Master Deluxe is better. But yeah.. that person probably ends up building pedals... and getting into that rabbit hole.

So you can never really blame the drugs completely. Some people are fully capable of keeping it with one drink. Others go bananas with tasting all kinds of stuff...

But lets not forget how strong of an influence marketing has on us all. Especially for those who say it does not influence them.

Yeah, first slot is IR, mix 1.

Then the amp. And just some reverb and I have the minotaur at gain 0,5. No idea what that really does but I like it on all amps

Edit:
I come across like a huge noob on this forum. So to be sure. I mean the IR is the first thing i put in there. After that the amp. But I don't put the amp after the cab.

Honestly, perhaps it’s laziness, perhaps it’s comfort zone, but EVERY modeler/plugin has Mix 1,2,3 of each of my four YA packs loaded. It’s just good stuff, because I guess my ears just match what Justin does.

For me, a no brainer. I paid 15 bucks to stop fucking with my mind about cabs.

I wonder if something cool happens at black friday. Might buy some more with the right price.

Personally, I'd recommend not purchasing more IRs for now. The new HX cabs are pretty damn good IMO. I'd check them out at first, they might then give you an idea of which IR pack might be a good addition.
GAS man, GAS.

But yeah, I can also use the IRs as a aiming point for when I make my own.

In the end its not that I really need 6 presets all with different amp models. I am not recording. I am also not in a live band atm. And most of my guitar heros have used 1 amp for the longest.

Which ones do you prefer for a good Marshall Crunch or other crunch? Any other's you just highly recommend?

I just learned how to play my practice MP3's from my laptop through the Stomp XL and headphones so I can practice anytime and not bother or wake anyone up. My IR's that sounded pretty good before don't sound that great now for some reason. i'm sure its either a computer or XL setting, but I'd rather not spend hours down that rabbit hole, lol...

These days I really don't bother much anymore.
As said, the Mandarin 30 is possibly my go-to from the HX cabs, followed by an IR combining it with the Greenback 25 (both almost at their stock settings). Did an IR of them to save blocks on the Stomp. In addition, I still also use my main 2 live IRs (that I created almost ages ago), which I'm just absolutely used to (could post them in case anyone wants).
No idea whether my sort of rock riff sounds qualify as "crunch", though.

The new Soldano cab in 3.8 is great.
