Anybody else getting sick of modellers?

Why should you be expected to pay 2K for a flagship modeler? Because that’s what it costs to develop something that replicates 200+ amps, effects, etc while also accounting for ads, further firmware development, employees, benefits, etc.

Secondly, if you waste that much time researching, tweaking modelers, etc then you’re the problem. Not the gear.
This sounds like a low blood sugar post. I'll let it slide.

1) Why can't they all maintain low latency like Boss processors? Almost every rig is a hybrid of analog and digital and if two loops of ADDA take 6ms+ it is already disqualified from serious use.

My new rig is using a GT-1000 and an HX Stomp in the loop. Latency is somewhat below 4ms (measured, not calculated or anything). Which is absolutely fine (and I'm sort of a victim of "once you've experienced latency, you can't unlearn it").

All the time I spent tweaking modelers, programming effects, switching options, researching gear online is thousands of hours lost that I will never get back and that has just taken time from playing and writing.

Wouldn't say "all", but a whole lot of the time I invested in modern technology pays off for me at each and every gig.

The irony of this thread is I think many hold outs and tube snobs (perhaps being bored due to lack of much new in the tube amp world) are finally coming around to realizing the benefits and how good modelers are now sounding.

Could also be that we also now have a slew of “gateway drugs” to the modeling world… ToneX, Nano Cortex, etc that make taking the leap less of a financial risk.

This sounds like an "I spend all my time on gear forums, my wife hates me, and my kids won't talk to me anymore" kind of post.

York Audio IRs are so good, I bet even a Headrush would be usable!
Yes, it does turn poop into…. Tolerable poop!
The Creambsck 2x12 cab is my favorite YA pack.
Yes! Mine to. Gotta get my thumb out my ass and load it into my ACS1…
Yeah, it’s Justin’s ideal custom built cab, with two M65’s
And it’s awesome

Hmm, I feel seen, even though you didn’t reply to me. But at least I realized I was the problem…. And I admit it. Well said!
No, more like “tired of your dumbass posts” post.
I love your dumbass post posts!

I am not stalking you or anything… I should have gone to sleep a while ago but your presence caught me. You know in that way that the shy teenager slowly walks up to someone cool but still keeps a good distance while thinking of something cool to say to get some attention. But then… pfft… it’s awkward kinda and he walks away but was still noticed and could live on that for a few days feeling good and warm inside!

Yeah… I’m gonna sleep now… my precious wookie.

My complaints about modelers are:

1) Why can't they all maintain low latency like Boss processors? Almost every rig is a hybrid of analog and digital and if two loops of ADDA take 6ms+ it is already disqualified from serious use.

2) Why can't they all completely separate the preamp modeling from the Amp modeling? The problem with 80% of solutions is that the preamp/amp often contains "saturation" or other weirdness that sounds good direct, but doesn't work when played into a tube amp or 4x12.

3) Why does the one company that focused on modeling the preamps accurately have the most antiquated user interface of all of them?

4) Why do the modelers with the best User Interface(s) suffer a paucity of effect options? (The better the UI, the fewer fx there are.)

5) How can we be expected to spend 2K for a depreciating "flagship" amp modeler when a real amp and a few pedals will give a better result?

6) All the time I spent tweaking modelers, programming effects, switching options, researching gear online is thousands of hours lost that I will never get back and that has just taken time from playing and writing.
It appears that the choice for you is clear.
Why not focus on what works for you?

IMO, the best is a tube amp with a modeler as long as you know what you are doing with both of them. With either together or alone, if you don't know what you are doing, it's going to suck.

I agree! They buy a modeler thinking that they can make it sound the same as a tube amp perfectly and they have no idea because they have never played one and cant make it sound good...

You really need some playing time with a tube amp to make a modeler sound close to one, IMO.
Definitely why I like modelers so much. I turn the knobs that I know what they do and stop when it sounds good. Just like an amp. No amp I’ve ever played in a room was 10000% perfect, but people love to dial their modelers like there’s always 5% more in there.

Well I'm def selling everything and going to get this, will be so much better than my current axes and my FM9 and pair of power cabs, I don't know why I didnt see this before

In a "step up on stage and perform" setting like was described previously, I'd take that rig over someone else's Kemper, or someone else's pre-programmed FM9 for that matter, all day any day.

Spent the day with the wife and kids in the city! Thanks for the kind thoughts though.

We seem to get a new village idiot from some other forum about once a year. I guess we were overdue.
You've got a hate boner for the new guy. I get it. You're trying to establish dominance.

Nothing I said in my six points above was negative or lacked self awareness. The last point about spending "thousands of hours" was the realization that every piece I spent time on and later sold was a waste of time. Which is why I've stopped doing that long ago.

You're not going to convince me you have a wife or kids that acknowledge your existence with the amount and quality of your online posting.

Re: your comment about learning each new piece of gear being a waste, If you weren't able to transfer skills from one device to another and were reinventing the wheel with each new piece of gear, I'm not surprised you're sick of yourself. Especially since you find yourself right back here posting on a gear forum despite your enlightened state of recognizing how wasteful all of this is.

Careful. He’ll start talking about your interactions with your wife and kids. Or lack there of.
