Anybody else getting sick of modellers?

99% of the complaints about modelers are either people wanting them to be something else or FOMO people who are someone fine with whatever they can get out of the 20 or so knobs on an amp/pedalboard but all of the sudden feel the need to tweak everything they can find in a modeler and not enjoy the experience.

Just bought myself a bunch of York IRs.

I feel exposed.

York Audio IRs are so good, I bet even a Headrush would be usable!

I already had the Deluxe. So I went for a bit more of a "in general" type of cab. That became the 212 M65 cream, is based on a custom York Audio 2x12 “Golden” cabinet loaded with Celestion G12M-65 Creamback speakers (from website).

Now the fun really begins where I just let the IR stand as a block.. and go through amps like I am in a candy shop.

There is just so much out there and so many different opinions. And also so many different lifestyles and workflows.

Which is why we must "Know thyself," first and foremost. :beer

What do we enjoy sonically? What is our playing situation and environment like? :idk

Somewhere along the intersection of those vectors we may find some degree of enjoyment and satisfaction. Maybe.

The Creambsck 2x12 cab is my favorite YA pack.

My complaints about modelers are:

1) Why can't they all maintain low latency like Boss processors? Almost every rig is a hybrid of analog and digital and if two loops of ADDA take 6ms+ it is already disqualified from serious use.

2) Why can't they all completely separate the preamp modeling from the Amp modeling? The problem with 80% of solutions is that the preamp/amp often contains "saturation" or other weirdness that sounds good direct, but doesn't work when played into a tube amp or 4x12.

3) Why does the one company that focused on modeling the preamps accurately have the most antiquated user interface of all of them?

4) Why do the modelers with the best User Interface(s) suffer a paucity of effect options? (The better the UI, the fewer fx there are.)

5) How can we be expected to spend 2K for a depreciating "flagship" amp modeler when a real amp and a few pedals will give a better result?

6) All the time I spent tweaking modelers, programming effects, switching options, researching gear online is thousands of hours lost that I will never get back and that has just taken time from playing and writing.

If it took thousands of hours of research before you figured out "ya know, there are better uses of my time" then I'd say, like the rest of us, you are sick of yourself, not modelers.

A fat person doesn't hate food, they hate themselves? Is that what you are going for?

I've determined I DO NOT like the Orange Rocker 15 amp. I've tried it in a lot of configs and it ain't happening. It's okay clean but not good dirty. I much prefer running modelers or my Friedman IR-X into the Blackstar Amped 1.

Thikning about trading it in on a Fender Tone Master Deluxe Creamback amp. I've been wanting a TM Deluxe for many years now and there's one nearby at a good price used. The Deluxe seems like it would work better at lower volumes, has a great speaker, would be a much better clean amp, possibly a better pedal platform amp if I wanted to do that.

I agree! They buy a modeler thinking that they can make it sound the same as a tube amp perfectly and they have no idea because they have never played one and cant make it sound good...

You really need some playing time with a tube amp to make a modeler sound close to one, IMO.

Not going into your discussion. But this isssss true. Often it’s a hole that needs to be filled. By food, alcohol… drugs … buying gear.
The last MFX I bought was a G11. Its an overpriced instant gratification device that's only purpose is to thumb its nose at complexity. Its kinda shitty, but at the same time it solves the GAS problem by having everything you need if you aren't a perfectionist.

If GAS could be converted to BWI, I am in the 25-27 range atm (I own two modeler, one real amp), but since finding this forum I find it creeping up.

In yellow. Need to be careful to not turn red. Got you.

Why should you be expected to pay 2K for a flagship modeler? Because that’s what it costs to develop something that replicates 200+ amps, effects, etc while also accounting for ads, further firmware development, employees, benefits, etc.

Secondly, if you waste that much time researching, tweaking modelers, etc then you’re the problem. Not the gear.
