What is your oldest guitar?

I have 3 that are just 1 year apart from each other but my oldest is my 1989 Hamer USA Californian

Donated this one a few years back but it was my first guitar (had it for 25 years). It is a Harmony Nylon 173 (I think) from early to mid-sixties. Had it refinished black because, why not (it was beat to heck before that).

I have a number of 1987 and 1988 Ibanez S-series and P-series guitars... But I also have a 1986 Ibanez Proline and a 1986 Ibanez RS430.

My current oldest guitar is a 1980 Ibanez LR10 (Lee Ritenour signature guitar of a 335). Pic is below. At one time I had a 1967 Gibson ES-345. I modded this guitar by replacing the trapeze tail piece with a stop-bar tail piece. All these years later, I still have the tail piece. In my defense for "ruining" a now vintage instrument, I had the work done in the mid 70s when a '67 was not as valuable as it is today.

Here is a pic of the LR10:

That’d be the 80’s Warlock I have that I really need to slap some paint on and put back together. I can’t remember if it’s an ‘87 or an ‘84.

Similar story here. Bought this NJ series Warlock in 89 or 90. Wouldn't buy this shape nowadays but as an 18 year old kid I thought it was pretty metal. Sometime around 2003 I let my brother borrow it, and it ended up stored under his bed until a few years ago, when I thought about it and asked if he still had it. I expected it to be in rough shape after ~18 years, but it held up pretty well. The metric Floyd and locking nut cap screws were rusty, so I replaced them, installed a pop-in arm, cleaned everything up, and it actually plays better than I remembered.

My oldest is this '92 Jackson Rhoads that I've owned since 2016.

The guy I bought it from installed a set of Bare Knuckle pickups with burnt chrome covers. It also came with a classy lightning strap, that I have since replaced (the pics are a few years old) with a plain black one.

I had it refrettet with SS frets and switched out the original pickup rings, control plate and trem cover with parts from Frets On The Net.

1971 SG200. Bought it at Suburban Music (now something else) in Glenside PA in 1972, I worked for 6 months as a busboy at the George Washington Motor Lodge in Plymouth Meeting (also long gone) to earn the $ 200 or $250 (forget which) to buy it.
Second oldest is a 1972 ES325TD I bought with a $300 tax return in 1976.

I went to school with Mark Hankin whose father owned the George Washington Motor Lodge. Once a week the school took our class there for swimming in the Lodge's swimming pool. Good times.

Small world.

Huh I'll be danged. I was born in Philly 1955, moved to Lafayette Hill 1959, grew up and lived there until 1989, when moved out to Norcal, now live in Union City CA. Still go back to visit friends and family every so often. Was there last year for 50th HS reunion

Yeah, the Hankins owned it and also the one in King Of Prussia, among other properties. My dad worked with PennDOT as a right of way assessor for the state and was dealing with the owners, in particular Mo, which led to an interesting outcome.

I worked there as a busboy/room service on weekends from about Jan to May or June 1972. One of the waitresses accused me of stealing tips, which I wasn't, and which caught me by surprise when ol' Mo called me into his office to grill me about. I denied it, and shortly thereafter quit, I had enough beans for the axe. My dad was not happy about my being unfairly accused. So as a result, as I understand it, PennDOT really wanted one of Hankins' properties as a right of way for a road somewhere, so my dad assessed property value such that ol' Mo received only pennies on the dollar on the value of the property. Breaks my heart. Not. > sad trombone<:pickle:beer:grin:banana

What area you in?

I live in Mt. Airy and have lived in the Germantown, Mt. Airy, Chestnut Hill area since 1960 except for a decade in NYC when I was in graduate school then television production.

Mark and I were well acquainted but weren't "friends" because he was a year ahead of me which at that age was a big deal. We went to Oak Lane Day School together where our class went swimming at the motor lodge and then again at Penn Charter.

Interesting story about your experience there, it must have been traumatic at the time. Being falsely accused is a horrible thing but at least you had a father who stuck up for you.
