I think my favorite over the years has probably been my Wylde Overdrive (original version), Boss SD-1, MXR Custom Badass Modified Overdrive, Ibanez TS Mini, and JHS Bonsai has some good sounds as well.

Basically, something TS or SD-1 based.

The Rat set to low gain into a crunchy sound can work. Can't be too high gain amp or distortion pedal wise (wherever the main source of gain is), has to be right at the point where you get full signal on the distortion pot, and the voicing of the amp or pedal has to work with the Rat.

My SD-1 is my go to boost pedal. If not that I also like my Keeley Super Phat Mod (modified BD-2 circuit). Both are great boosts and can add some serious grit too.

The BD-2 is cool if the amp doesn't require a low end roll off or midrange focus.

Honestly it sounds amazing into a Fender. It’s like a “more” pedal for a Fender amp.

Totally forgot, but a very good straight-up boost is the one from a Fulltone Supa-Trem2. Besides being a killer stereo tremolo, the boost function is .

Well, for me the KOT as a least boost, as well as the EP booster. For analog clean boost or preamp, the source audio Zio. Analog clean and mid boost, the Suhr Koko boost.

I use two on my pedalboard; one at 6dB and for pickup enhancement and the second to drive my line stronger with a 9 dB boost to the rack and hit the two 12ax7 tubes in the Digitech 2112 SGS and the 12ax7 tubes in two VHT Valvulator 1's harder.
And it doesn't mess with the headroom in my signal , with those two Pickup Boosters.
