Very original thread: What is your favorite Klon?

The layout and exact specifications and size of the components seems to matter. All of the surface mounted micro component versions included the KTR don’t have the feel of the original to play through. But I would also say you need a high quality tube amp to really make the difference pop. And even then only in the room and mostly for the player.

I do not own one..but based on the Andertons video…I’d buy any of those and consider the “klon thing” covered.

The only real difference is the switch brand and the use of Alpha pots .
The pots have slightly different positions for the contacts so Nick flipped them around and fly wired them to avoid changing the pub in any way from the clone that it is . The “ magic “ diodes are also not identical in the version you can get now but they were originally.

I only got in to Klons because of Jeff Beck .
I saw his rehearsal board and it was very simple .

Yes I like it a lot. It does sound the same ( feels slightly different to me) and Jeff had one on his main board.

Not true I posted a picture of his rehearsal board above and that was also the one he used at home . The delay was swapped out a couple of times but nothing else. That was for at least the last 15 years.

Just like I’d rather have a few fantastic guitars instead of a shitload of Chibsons and Epi’s, I’d rather have a few fantastic pedals from different makers than all of the pedals from a company like Warm…

I have hundreds of great pedals from lots of different makers and companies.
Same goes for amps & guitars.
I do like Epiphone some Gibson Fender Martin Rickenbacker and many others.
What I spend my money on is up to me.
I’ve also probably given more guitars away to good causes than you have ever owned.
When it stops being fun I will give everything away to local schools that always need gear.

okay. theres nothing wrong with that, inherently. but i also think that believing that theres some magic in a BRAND, in this day and age, i think isnt necessarily logical.

i play assembled partscasters MOST of the time. its not that i dont own real fenders. but i dont attribute MAGIC to the brand- but the design and implementation of the final thing- and thats a negotiated aspect that has little to do with the manufacturer. youd be hard pressed to tell me that warmoth is second fiddle to fender because they make parts to fit their instruments.

i believe in setup and solid parts. i believe in well made things. and ive played enough 'big name' dogs over forty years to know theres plenty of fanky branded dogshit and diamonds amongst dirt.

I've wanted a H&K tube factor pedal for a while but never grabbed one. Jimmy Herring uses/used one for many years and always loved his tone and playing. Cool to see Beck used one too.
