What are we watching now?

Finished up last season of Cobra Kai over the long weekend. For something that is pretty much Power Rangers without the suits; it was pretty darn good. LOTS of nostalgia baked in for me as the first movie especially is a childhood masterpiece in my eyes. They did everyone right in the series.

Watched some other randos but nothing too off the wall? Going to see The Monkey on Friday. Osgood Perkins does Stephen King. Looking forward to that \m/

I think what they did wrong is that some of the seasons went really ham with over the top unnecessary teen drama. I think the last season managed to somehow pull back a bit. We haven't yet watched the episodes that came out recently.

Honestly all the guys that were in the original movies did a great job with their respective characters for this series.

Yeah it definitely leaned waaaaaaaaaaay too hard into that Dawson's Creek/CW/"I'm too old to have a modern reference to cite" vibe. The last batch of episodes really tied things up as nice as you could while still mining that teen drama territory.

I need to rewatch the original. It's a perfect film for me :chef

I need to watch that. I just get so intimidated by "Only 60+ episodes left to go." :wat

Like JiveTurkey said, it either sucks you in or you dip out and watch something else. If you're into it, then you're like "hell yeah, still 59+ episodes to go!"

Of course, a lot of long running series turn to shit at some point. Cobra Kai doesn't lose the plot too badly along the way, even if there are some subplots that are unnecessary and dumb.

We've been watching Xena and the show is just lovely, lovely cheese. And we're still just in the first season! It's our weekend "let's have breakfast and watch a few episodes" show.

I'm waiting for the Crow remake to come on to Starz so I can justify my sub to it that I forgot had just renewed :bag

RIP to Brandon Lee obviously but the first one holds ZERO fondness to me. I'm looking forward to seeing how terrible this one is despite me never holding the OG in high regard!

Oh god, The Crow remake looks so terrible.

I have some fond memories of the original. It probably came out in exactly the right era for its angsty, gothy thing to work.

It does. I feel like Bill Skaarsgaard (sp) is always going to be a tough sell because Pennywise. There are a number of movies that I am pretty contrarian about. The Crow, V for Vendetta; I know there's more "edgy" things like this that made me cringe for whatever reason at the time they came out? I'll report back either way \m/

It's very juvenile. But the OG characters make it worth it, I'd say; if you hold the original in any high nostalgic regard? I'd say give it a try and if you aren't feeling it an episode or 3 in; no loss.

I watched like 10 seasons of The 100 with my Son. I can totally go there. :guiness

Maybe.

We'll see.

We just rewatched Heat for the millionth time. You never know what cut you're going to get, since Michael Mann is insane about doing minor re edits of his films with each release. One thing that always is the case: it's a goddamn masterpiece. Al Pacino is absolutely the best actor you could hope for in life. "Gimme all you got!"

Having an Einsturzende Neubauten track (Armenia) in a major movie soundtrack was a delight on release - and still works.

I don't know if that was Henry Rollins (who has an EN tattoo) or Matthias Gohl. Great movie!

I love the way it's used during the lead up to them meeting; it's so epic. I had to look up Matthias Gohl haha. Not sure if you were joking, but it's Henry Rollins. And I love that they have tiny Al Pacino taking down Rollins in a fight scene haha! I'm sure Michael Mann would say something about tactical supremacy haha!

Matthias Gohl is credited with the soundtrack, but I expect Rollins introduced them to Einsturzende Neubauten. Mann used it again in another movie, The Insider.

Oh cool! The Insider is my favorite Michael Mann film. Do you remember where it's used in that, because I don't remember it at all in that!
