The reason why my buddy's shop sells 20-25w heads more than 100w heads is simply because the gigging musicians around here can mike it, or DI it. Onstage volume isn't 120dB anymore. Why not save money and gain portability, if it fits the need?Yes. There are plenty options for everybody. Quite a few musicians just don't play big enough stages or stages at all.
The silliness arises when someone makes a comment like "well, why don't you get the 100W version instead? Never compromise, bruh."
Hey, I agree a 100W stack cranked up is a glorious thing, but it's not realistic in most cases. There are tons of players that have returned or sold said 100W amps because they are blistering loud on 1 or 2. Hopefully they have a decent master volume, but if not you need to add more accessories to get that tone to reasonable volumes but still sound like it's "cranked" tone. So now enter in: 15/20/30/50 watt options for people that don't want all the accessories. Same with the popularity of modelers. It's not too difficult to understand.
