Marshall Origin 50 Drop-in PCB mod

@MadAsAHatter how hard would it be to swap back to the OEM board and return to stock if you wanted? Does yours sounds closer to a modded 800 vs the Plexi-style tone?

The new board makes it more like a modded JCM800. It has a similar gain structure (cascading) and tone with a few extras like diode clipping and variable mid slope. The low gain is like plugging into the low input of an 800 and high gain is the high input.

It would be super easy to swap the original boards back in. They aren't modified at all. It'd take probably 10 minuets to do. Unplug the connectors, remove the screws and remove the main board, unbolt the pots and remove that board. Reverse the procedure to put the original board back in. Just make sure to take pictures of connectors on the original boards so they all go back into the right spot.

Thanks, Brother!! That's exactly what I needed to know. Did all the Caps, Resisters, etc. come with the board or did you source on your own?

You'll have to source your own, but a basic bill of materials comes with the set of documents. Most items have a mouser part number with them. When I sourced everything I did have to substitute a few things and order from a couple different places. Some were out of stock and a few had the bulk item for the part number.

You'll be able to use the wire harnesses from the original board.
You will need an 8 pin wire harness that isn't listed on the BOM - CABLE-EH08. The one I ordered had the connector on one end and open wires on the other. I didn't have the wire crimpers to do the open end so I ordered 2 and spliced it in the middle. That worked just fine.

Last thing to note is caps CP5 & CP6 are 680nF 100V. For whatever reason Mouser & Digikey had that listed as not sold in USA. I found an ebay vendor that had them. Here's the link.

I made my own part list that shows everything I ordered and notes on a couple things. I just DM's you a screenshots of it, hopefully it's readable. Tried sending the excel file but it wouldn't let me.

This is DEFINITELY something I can sink my teeth into.

I've been watching a ton of Jason's videos lately on his Marshall mods, love his channel and how he explains everything. Decided to reach out to him to get him back over here, once he gets back to Oz from a recent crazy build run in Indiana he'll be getting back on. He seems approachable enough to me that it'd be easy enough to shoot him a message with any questions about part substitutions.

Once I get rid of this pile of useless speakers in my kitchen I've already got a workbench set aside at work to go in the kitchen, I'm going to knock out a few pedal kits first for shits and giggles but once I get my soldering legs back, if I can find an Origin cheap enough I'd totally be down for turning that into a modded JCM800!

Tight work, @MadAsAHatter!
