Well, First Impression Can Be Wrong

For me, 3 examples off the top of my head:

When I was first turned onto Dream Theater, I was like, Meh. :idk

When I played my first Majesty at GC, it felt weird, and too small in my hands. Didn't do anything for me.

And now, when I first got my JP15, I didn't really care for it. I mean, it was obviously a fine guitar, but..., Idk. Just didn't wow me.

But I changed my mind on all 3! Love them all. :chef

Ever had something just not do it for you at first, but then you ended up loving it?

OTOH, there were a few gear choices that I tried SO HARD to justify, mostly because I thought I had made an informed decision, but no matter how hard I tried, I finally gave in and gave up.

Salesman, in trying to sell my teenage self a Yamaha G100 212-2 combo solid state amp (that I stupidly got rid of a Peavey Classic 50 combo for, that being a tube amp, did sound good):

"Oh this amp has a parametric EQ, so you'll be able to get any tone you WANT! You do know that this is the amp Geddy Lee uses live, right?"

I fell for it, and hated that amp. And never did learn how to use that damn GEQ either!!

I shoulda said, "yeah, well I want the amp that the actual GUITAR PLAYER in that band uses!!" How I fell for that line, I'll never know.

As you have probably figured out from my posts, I'm a big fan of the BluGuitar Amp 1 Mercury Edition I use.

But I came very close to returning it when I got it! I found it to sound too harsh with the 4x10 Greenbacks I was using. The treble knob, despite having tons of range, didn't control the frequencies where the issue was. It was only when I figured I needed to keep the gain higher (mitigates the high value bright cap) and roll back my guitar volume and tone to compensate that it sounded right to me.

I further fine tuned it with the gain range MIDI command, that basically sets the max gain on each channel. Reducing gain on the overdrive channels by about 20-30% made it work more to my liking.

For bands, Rush took a while to get used to, due to Geddy's vocals.
