Video Games

In HK finally made it to the Soul Sanctum - incredible music here. Keep dying to the damn Soul Warrior (I only know his name cuz I googled his ass which didn’t help lol)

I only now found out you use shards in Silksong for you tool after someone in Reddit complained about it saying it was a frustrating mechanic, running out of shards after x amount of attempts on a boss and losing the use of it.

I guess I haven't died enough on any boss for that to happen.

I just beat Lace. It took several tries, but it was basically the game teaching me to use my new skill and not to rush. Reminded me of Genichiro Ashina (IIRC) in Sekiro, where you finally had to learn to counter and play properly. Nowhere near as hard though :rofl

I *think* I’m halfway through Hollow Knight and I’m fully addicted to this shit - SUCH a good game. I get new abilities and then explore old areas that I couldn’t access, get my ass kicked a bunch and win eventually, sucking up the lore. Fuck, this game went under my radar for a long time. I’ll waste a whole hour just messing about and taking it all in. Probably the top 5 games to come out of the 2010s for sure.

I have no idea why I ignored the original, but now I wish I had played it!

Your enthusiasm convinced me to pick it up on the Switch. I have it on the PS5 and played it a bit but got distracted by other things at some point. Now back in it, just got past Hornet. A great game to play on handheld.

Hollow Knight was so fun that I bought a new Switch just to play it (because my kids were always using the Xbox and the other Switch).

Just got my Switch 2 over the weekend. It's definitely bigger and faster than the original. Screen isn't as vivid as the OLED version but it's better than the original. Controllers are significantly more sturdy than the originals which is the big reason I got it (I've been having issues with controllers that keeps getting worse). I'll need to get a grip or something to make it a little more comfortable though. And battery life doesn't seem like it will be quite as good.

Lace I think I beat first or second try, really fun boss battle as she's so much like Hornet. Fourth Chorus wasn't bad either, maybe 3-4 tries on that one. Next section got significantly harder to me and it took several sessions to get past. I'm on the section after which opens up a fair amount.

I would love to see a patch where they give you a difficulty slider to cut the damage in half for us casual gamers. I'm not a Souls guy.

I've been super happy with the Switch 2 and silksong is a perfect fit! Also enjoyed Donkey Kong a lot

It’s too bad that they didn’t try and work out the ergonomics a little more for this version - it’s probably the one thing that keeps me from playing it the most. Hollow Knight is worth the hand cramps though!

I use these and I love them (but it doesn't have any rumble so that kinda sucks) https://www.target.com/p/nintendo-switch-split-pad-pro-black/-/A-80110543?sid=&TCID=PDS-21614226425&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21614226425&gbraid=0AAAAAD-5dfbMWBbg12wTa7qtrf4Q96X2x&gclid=CjwKCAjw_fnFBhB0EiwAH_MfZoGyGbWSe_7sH6D7ebVOtUFmTVfUoiwlDrA2sRT2BglM9I0msBtJThoCVBAQAvD_BwEScreenshot 2025-09-08 at 9.26.36 AM.png

I actually went through two of those! Yes I highly recommend them and you can often find them in person retail at Target or Best Buy. The first one, the joystick wore out. The second one started constantly dropping the connection and mid game would tell me to connect a controller. I did tighten up the side rails which helped for a few weeks and then it started happening again. Tried a different set of controllers and same issue. So it seems more like a Switch issue which is partly why I upgraded.

The Switch 2 does sit kind of in the base of the palms okay, right behind where the "meat" of the base of your thumb is. So it's okay but yeah not as ergonomic as it could be. Not ready to drop another $100 on new controllers though so right now I'm living with it.

But those Hori pads are critical for precise games like Hollow Knight.

I got them when Tears of the Kingdom came out and my hands were cramping like a mf lol
