Video Games

I’m getting my butt kicked constantly without any weapon or armor upgrades. Two points damage every time I get hit by bosses is killing me.

How do you rate the game vs HK so far?

nothing will touch hollow knight imo but the game is good. Art is awesome and level and enemy design look great. Gameplay is not as interesting and it feels a lot more difficult. Levels are extremely linear feeling which makes it seem more like a grind to get through them. And I haven’t found any power ups that help make it easier. I’m really annoyed that all the bosses do two hits of damage so if you screw up and they hit you twice it’s almost always instant kill.

The exploration and feeling of being lost is half the charm I’m getting from HK - like an hour passes by before I know it and I only progress a little bit lol

Been stuck now for several hours. Bosses on both sides and no save benches nearby. You basically have to run the bosses hitless. Difficulty feels way way higher than HK.

Hot take: f*** Silksong and the horse it rode in on. They took the most obnoxious part of HK and made it an order of magnitude more obnoxious by asking you to do it at an angle (of not quite 45 degrees) while pulling the stick vertically and pressing the left face button. Arbitrary, counterintuitive, clunky bullshit. I’m not exaggerating when I say I tried one such puzzle about 50 times. No thanks.

Shame, as I was mostly enjoying the game up to that point. Glad I didn’t pay for it.

Me? I'm having a blast. Just beat Fourth Chorus and my heart is pumping and my hand cramping.

I'm enjoying it so far. I beat the bell beast(?) and I've been exploring the map. Saw a glimpse of a boss-looking dude and turned around.

Fourth Chorus was a fun battle, I nearly got him on my first try but ended up on my third I think? It’s fun playing new bosses because you get new patterns to learn and all the skills from the first game translate.

Pro tip: next level I highly recommend if you start on one side stay there until you’re done because the save point disappears if you leave and you have to go all the way across the map every time you die.

I spent another hour trying to get past this part and am getting closer but not there yet. Enemy movements are so random and that’s throwing me off. I know I need to git gud but yeah there’s no training wheels like there were in HK…

Finally made that nearly rage quit-inducing pogo-jump (onto the elevator).Twice, actually. The first time I ran right off the opposite side and had to do it again. The second time I was immediately confronted with another, near identical but slightly harder variation of the same jump. Naturally if you miss the second jump you have to do both all over again.

F*** Silksong and the horse it rode in on.

I'm really getting into Silksong! I love the beautiful artwork and the sound design is great. Haven't run into anything too frustrating yet, although the dude with the sword took a few tries (apparently it wasn't a boss? lol)

Finally beat the bird gauntlet after three sessions of trying and now have to deal with the boss on the other side but the only bench is in the middle of the map so every time I die at the boss or trying to get there I have to start all over. Seriously don’t understand why they designed this game to be so frustrating. It’s honestly nowhere near as fun as the first play through of the first game.

Okay figured out the patterns of the other boss nearly did a hitless but all it takes is getting hit three times and you die so just need to practice a bit.

Ended up ordering a switch 2 because my switch oled keeps losing controller connections which makes any kind of fighting and platforming impossible.

So apparently I’ve been banging my head against a wall and I’m not supposed to be attempting this jump until I’ve found a couple of other items. Glad I “phoned a friend”.

Le sigh…

Same friend is several bosses ahead of me and says he’s never once had to pogo jump onto a flying MOB. Apparently I managed to invent a different, much more difficult video game, entirely in my own head. I’m sensing a pattern here…
