Video Games

I am a souls guy, and I can’t even make a dent in Silksong. I couldnt finish Hollow Knight either. I think they’re both harder than your typical Soulslike, because they don’t give any alternatives as to how to tackle any given difficulty spike (e.g. boss). In most Soulslikes you can grind, use a different build, use expendable items, etc. In HK/SS you git gud or you git pissed and git lost (as I’ve done, unfortunately.)

HK you can grind to get weapon and health upgrades plus spells are OP and you get them early. SS I’m 1/3 of the way through the game with zero weapon upgrades and just got my first health upgrade. It’s almost entirely dying repeatedly to try and get slightly better.

Also fuck the ants. Fuck all of them.

I never use spells and I know I should lol - I think I’m maybe 2/3 of the way through, the map is very open now and I’m hungry for more lore at this point lol

Git gud, scrub.
After a certain point, I have to do the juice versus squeeze math. Hollow Knight did a pretty good job maintaining a dopamine drip, but Silksong demands a lot of the player and comes up a little short on its own end, at least in the first few hours.

To be clear: I love all the metroidvania exploration stuff in both games, but the paywall (in time and frustration) bosses are not my idea of “fun”.

Yeah I totally see that. Silksong is like “hard work is its own reward” which is a completely different type of gamer. Those aren’t my favorite games.

I will say when I beat the boss today it was satisfying as hell. And then 10 minutes later I ran into another boss that completely steamrolled me. At least I found another area that I could get through reasonably.
