The "Going To An Audition" Thread

w00t!! Did. the. Mississippi. bassist. show. again?

Nope. He's been a half-timer since meeting. Good dude. Talented. Legit bassist. Just seems
like he has a lot of other stuff going on and has only showed 2 times so far. :idk

Luckily all that acoustic nonsense has also been put way out in the back 40. The other guitarist
and I agree on that front! :banana

So Mississippi Rebel Bassist is a no show again. Drummer from last week didn't show. I ended
up playing drums. :brick

Looks like I am down to the hyper-caffeinated Drummer who started moving to the same town
I live in today. Going to go over check out his place later.

He's always stoked to play, has a great kit, been a Drum Instructor for over two decades now,
and will be close by. I am somewhat hopeful and also a bit guarded.... because people do
people things now and again. Ya just never know.

Yeah, we never jam on the weekends anymore. Old, washed-up, never-was, lazy fuckers that we are!

But with Jive Turkey Day on Thursday, when we normally get together, we all seemed to want to
do it tonight. I say, "Refreshing!" :beer

I would be down for a weekend jam. But I have found that cover band stuff is always relegated to a weeknight treat is all. Refreshing indeed!

So Chuck has an emotional support Chihuahua. No shit! Cool little critter. He hung while we
blasted out tunes for about 4 hours. Yes, Chuck is super-hyped and never shuts the fuck up,
but damn that dude can play the drums. He legit seems to know every rock/metal song from
the past 40 to 50 years. Damn! That's what being a Drum Instructor will get for the past two
decades will get ya. He says it is students that forced him to learn so many songs, and playing
in a variety of different bands over the years.

We rocked out some tunes we have never played before, or even thought of. Bark At The Moon
(Yeah, don't ask about the solos. :facepalm ) l You Can't Kill Rock-N-Roll by Ozzy, Last Resort for JT,
because I know he loves himself some Papa Roach. :rofl

He's already talking about next Thursday. Since he is only about an half a mile from me, and is
local I suspect he's already locked into the spot.

My two quibbles (always have to have a quibble or three  ) are his dynamics are less than
stellar. He admits to being a power hitter and that means sometimes songs start at the same
volume on the drums as they do when a song crescendos. Also, double bass. Goddamn I hate
the double-bass so hard sometimes. It's literally like some dude two-handed tapping on the guitar
at the end of every verse/chorus/transition. WTF? Can you say, "inappropriate and uncalled for?"

I am tying one foot behind his back so he can't (over)use that freaking double-bass cheater pedal.

Double-bass flourishes/fills in every mother fucking song!?!?! Fuck off!! :hmm:horse :Boo

It is very Chuck, though.

Also played the Fender MIJ Aerodyne the entire night for the first time with the band.

That's a sick ass guitar. I sure am glad I didn't buy one a year ago at more than 2x the price.

Find a bassist, cover LA Villa Strangiato dead on. Dynamics problem solved :chef

Yeah, are those 5s or 6s, Tom??

That Outro Solo is still fire! :chef
You know, that's a great question. I remember asking Todd (RIP) about that, but I can't remember what he said.

If played as 6, you have to repeat one note on each beat. If you skip that note, it gives you a better chance of keeping up and sticking the final notes. But either way, the damn thing goes by so freaking fast, as long as you get the "gist" of it, and it's somewhat articulate, you know the audience would be yelling when you finished!

Edit: Uncle Ben Eller is one who's lessons I fully trust, and I just checked out his, and he does do the 6's, w/ the doubled note.

Haha! Oh man!

I think the over/under on that happening is less than 0. :bonk

The singer barely gives us enough time to get our solos in without returning the
attention to himself. I think we should instrumental him a time or two going forward.

Mississippi Rebel Bassist is still in play, and we may end up with a totally reworked (and improved)
rhythm section. He's just been busy with essential work on the new digs and a bit overwhelmed.
Been texting with him today, and may get everyone in the same place at the same time this coming
Thursday. We'll see. :idk

The Saga continues. :stirthepot
