The "Going To An Audition" Thread

Bit the bullet and placed an ad looking for musicians. I emphasized creativity and musicianship
over knowing how to play Brown-Eyed Girl 8 different ways. :hmm

Had some cool responses so far. Tonight a new to us bass player is going to come and hang with us.

He can spell and seems pleasant in texts, so that is good. Loves John Entwhistle. I wonder if that
means he likes to play loud and overplay. :idk

OMFG! An actual bass player. Not a guitarist who is playing bass just to play and have a gig. A real
bass player who plays bass like God intended bassists to do. :chef

It is a bit weird that he is the exact same age as I am, and is also named "Dave." :wat

Superfun and cool hang (I know, first date and all!). Clean, well-groomed, not sloppy and disheveled,
no odd ticks or personality quirks that you can't look away form either. Didn't reek of liquor. Didn't
ask for our bottles and cans so he could return them to the store for a few bucks either. :LOL:

Caught on super quick and with a single pass --- maybe two ---- he was locked in.

Chalk one up for CL! Said he liked the ad.

Relocated in the North from Nashville, to live peacefully in the woods. Mississippi born and bred.
Did gigs opening for Corrosion of Conformity in the 90s. Yeah, ya just never know who you will run
into in life. Have to put our bait out there, thumbs up, hitching a ride, and maybe life will surprise us
once in awhile. :beer

Probably never see him again now. :ROFLMAO:

Haha! I am pretty sure lunatics span the human spectrum at this point.
I used to joke that once impregnated one. Even used that exact word. :idk

My actual experience is that bassists are rarer than hen's teeth. It seems to
draw the fewest participants amongst the traditional instruments of a rock
band, and then you have that limited number being further reduced by how
many of them actually want to be proficient at bass, or have the capacity to
be proficient.

Pretty sure this is why Jack and Meg were a 2 piece with The White Stripes.
Couldn't find a bassist to save their lives, so fuck it! :LOL:
 
Got a call from a guy about playing Drums. Missed his call and call him back after he left a voicemail.
He's super excited! "Dave, I can't believe it's you. What's up man! How are ya!?!"

Super exuberant and I am clueless. I don't know who it is. :LOL: So I string the Convo along and hope I am
not required to know his name. While he is talking I am racking my brain trying to nail the voice and
put a name to it. Nothing. Then he mentions a singer I know. Suddenly I know who it is. Tried to put
a project together with this drummer and a singer (but couldn't find a bassist top save our lives!) about
10 years ago. We lost touch after. He sold his house, and is moving to the town I live in, and a friend
of his sent him my CL ad looking for a Drummer. So he called.

This makes a bassist and a drummer who have both moved to the tiny-ass town I live in. What are the
odds. They are both pros, too. Drummer has supported himself by giving lessons in a private studio for
the past 20 years. Has a killer kit, and can play just about anything. A bit hyper and a wired a little hot,
but I can work with that. :beer

Bought an house 5 blocks away, JT! Says he knows no one here. Except me. So I am both
super stoked and also a bit concerned that he may be one of those "Just thought I'd drop
by" for the 6thy time this week. :LOL:

Super high energy guy----which is great because he is always stoked about everything, and
not so great because he is always so stoked about everything. :idk

Haha! I have to wait a month to find out what the mirror reveals. :idk

Not closing until the 17th of Nov. Truth is, even if he is still a bit naturally
over-caffienated I'll be happy to have another musician bud living close by.
He's single, has a dog, smokes pot, and loves music. All of which feel eerily
familiar to me. :knit

Hang in there, might end up being really worth it! Plus, you're guaranteed to feel at least a little better.
