The "Going To An Audition" Thread

Yup. Well said!! :beer

I played nice the first couple of times we practiced. Meek and mild... just fitting in.

Not tooting my own horn here---but I was the most skilled and experienced guy in the room.
Have more years playing under my belt with a variety of different musicians and styles.... and am
fairly proficient on a number of different instruments. The catalog of songs I know was deeper, too.
I could only bite my tongue so long.

If I have ZERO input, and am assumed to have no valid knowledge or experience apart from learning
their pre-existing set-list then fuck 'em. Fuck 'em all to hell!! :horse

:rofl

And I am all for being hired to "support" someone else and their gigs. Have done that a bunch
in the past and had a blast doing it. Also learned a lot.

That's not what this was presented as, though.

I think the singer may indeed want lackeys. He owns his own HVAC business. He may be conditioned
to being "the guy," if you know what I mean. :idk

This is why you walked away, light-heartedly … and knowingly … :clint

Decided to try and find some new people to connect and play with. That means a CL Ad
around here. Have had a few replies already. Talked to a drummer who said "I don't
like to be busy and overplay. Like to leave space for others."

Translation: I may not be very good. :wat

He was pleasant on the phone. But he's 68. :brick

Heard from a Bass Player today who just moved to the same town I am in, and once again
his name is.... get this.... Dave.

I swear I am not making this up.

I have super low expectations on the music front, but it is always cool (and often stimulating) to
meet new people. Might make a friend or two. :beer

I’ve been looking at CL weekly. Got excited last night when I saw a metal drummer pop up…..and then I clicked it.

Not sure if “deterioration sanguisugabogg acadelama falsifier” is a medical condition he has or influences. Maybe I should stop being a little bitch cuz anyone who can do blast beats at 290bpm has to be an absolute beast, Superior Drummer gets sloppy around 265.

Totally reeks of AI-generated content. No actual human has used the word “extreme” since 1995 or so. Except for possibly Nuno Bettencourt.

I auditioned for INXS Rock Star at CBGB’s. Got there a good 3 hours early, was fifth in line. Had fallen down on the way there, my pants were ripped, bloody knee (lucky didn’t break my guitar)…..had worked on Don’t Change for 2 weeks, got up there, got to the end of the 1st verse and hear “NEXT”…..obviously didn’t get the gig 😂 it was January in NYC, abysmal weather, had to hike like 25 blocks, brrrrr!

Haha! Great story!

At least you got your exercise that day! :beer

I auditioned for a Regional Casino Band many years back. Second song in Keyboard player/Band Leader
says, "I've heard enough. I've gotta take a shit now!"

Wow?! That bad, huh?

Two female singers also in the room. One said to me, "Really, it's not you. We had a band meal right before
you showed up."
