It’s getting real fuzzy in here.
It’s crazy that the Dunlop Fuzz Face Minis went from $99 to $150 over the last couple years. They all sound great and solve a couple important problems that typically come with trying to use a FF on a board.
Side note - it’s surprising to me how many FF YouTube demos are just a dude with everything on 11 playing humbuckers. Not how that circuit is intended to be used at all.
If you are new to the FF, here’s a cheat sheet:
- Grab something with single coils and 250k volume pots.
- Put the FF first in your chain or at least before any buffered pedals.
- Forget the bypass switch exists. Leave the pedal on all the time, control the fuzz from your guitar volume knob. You can go from fuzz to a nice dynamic distortion, into OD, and eventually an edge of breakup blackface style clean. It’s kind of a magic trick.
Yup, you can definitely have fun filtering and/or boosting the FF output. Such a fun, misunderstood circuit.I like to run a klon after a FF, when it's off the buffer brightens the FF up a little bit and cuts some of the excess bass. Turn it on for solos to really goose the front of your amp. Strat>FF>Klon>Marshall = WIN

I had been rocking the silicon 70 fuzz for the last 2 weeks or so but swapped in the germanium 69 fuzz over the weekend. It’s staying there for now. Not because it’s better, just a slightly different flavor.
The mid and contour functions on these pedals add SO MUCH flexibility.
I have a 69 just like yours, great pedal, never tried the 70.View attachment 50584

Tremendous!I have a 69 just like yours, great pedal, never tried the 70.
I just finally got around to soldering the board for a super fuzz clone I got from BYOC right before they closed. I want to paint the enclosure before I finish putting it together.

Should I try it?Still enjoying the Carcosa. It just doesn't sound bad no matter where you set it.
Does Dave like Behringturd?Should I try it?![]()
7th times a charm?Does Dave like Behringturd?
Wait, am I misunderstanding, you've tried the Carcosa 7 times?!7th times a charm?![]()
Did some A/B testing the other day, and the Fulltone Ultimate Octave has managed to get back on my board, replacing the WA Foxy Tone Box and the HBE UFO (I kept rotating these two).FYI looks like most Fulltone stuff is on sale for a pretty nice discount. I don’t like the guy, but I do like a number of his fuzz and drive pedals.
I’ve got these
