I used to be index/ring and then I somehow reasoned with myself that doing index/pinky would have my hands ‘prepped’ to play licks in between chords and being 15, started making fun of anyone “not ready” by playing with their index/ring, because I was a little fucker.

I should also add that sometimes I use my middle finger and pinky. That’s something I got used to doing in the mid nineties, when I was working every weekend in a bar band and broke my left index finger. I learned how to do quite a bit with my remaining three fingers, and that has stuck with me to current times.

I guess he's referring to major chords like a C major played in 3rd position (x3555x)

Depends what notes are being played with/around it.

Nothing but power chords? Usually index + pinky.

Index/ring for me… my pinky has down syndrome … its very hard to teach him anything….

355xxx

And it requires index ring and pinky for me. Unless it’s drop d ala turkey then index all day.
