Orange Rockerverb Love and Hate

I have a MKIII 50 watt. I have been so up and down with the amp.

Seems players either love or hate it.

Oddest thing is the tube in the effects loop is very important and can make or break the amp.

Bring some thoughts on these.

I always felt the rockerverbs were trying to be something other than the "classic" orange tone

I've only ever tried the Mk 1 years ago, and didn't much care for it, but I've heard lots of good clips of these amps

Never played the Rocker, only played the Crush Pro solid state version. (Have circled the waters on the new Super Crush)

I was surprised how much I liked the mid gain tones out of it. Awesome classic British rock tones. When going to uber gain, it felt like it lost some clarity but that unique fuzzy vibe was cool in its own way.

Once boosted the MKiii turns into a monster.

i would love to play one. you dont see that many around here.

Had a Rockerverb 50 combo. Played it until the knobs literally fell off. Sold it with 2 knobs left and maybe half the orange still on it. It’s a good amp. Had a nice tone with a forward midrange which was very particular. My only complaint was the verb went from a whisper to way too loud too fast on the knobs taper. I heard they addressed this in later versions.

I’d buy another one. Wouldn’t kick one out of bed.

Sounds to me like knob reliability was a serious issue on that amp.

What I really dug about the Rockerverb III
I had,
was the footswitchable attenuator adjuster.
You could have clean, then shattered orange
clean and then mega-dosed vitamin C crunch.
I dig me some Rocker 30 and the vintage
non-master volume ones are the CRUSH
of the mix.. “No Quarter”…that sludgy’..
Loud enough to keep up with Bonham,LTFOL!

Always wanted to try or own one, and there is a good deal near me right now.

But, I have silly “rules” about gear that cancel out the possibility:

- all heads must match cabs
- Orange cabs are big and heavy
- Orange cabs have no wheels
- therefore I cannot own an Orange head

(However in actuality an Orange head would look pretty badass on my Recto 2x12 or 4x12 and probably sound incredible.)

Ok you guys got me to look more in depth at the 50W Rockerverb head, which is what's near me now.

It's 10 lbs heavier than my 90W Mesa head and half the watts, so screw that.

Ok, I'm officially an old man gearhound and make buying decisions solely on weight…

Between a buddy and me, we have the OG version and a MKIII; the OG version sounds best, something about those 6v6s and that amp…

Great amps, and the next successor in the Orange line is the OR15. Monster of a thing and even at 7 watts just straight LOUD…

Sucks, doesn't it?

What's REALLY limiting is making decisions based on weight AND size. Hell, why do you think I play an H&K Grandmeister Deluxe 40 now?

Every demo and vid I've heard of a Rockerverb sounds awesome. The one time I got to play one in a store, it did NOT sound good, to me. I had NO idea how to set it, so I probably did all 12:00 and went from there.

Everyone knows Orange heads look cool on Mesa cabs. It’s a fact. 😁
