Amp GAS - High Gain Choices and Watts

Well, I got an extension cab for my Bad Cat Black Cat - but still hankering for something other than EL84 power tubes.

Engl Fireball 25 with 6L6 or the Revv G20 with 6V6 tubes... The Revv is $600AUS more.

You know what??
-I’m gasssin’ for 4 different amps right now until..
I plug in and just play the damn guitar.
I’m at that point where no matter how great the amp and no matter how big the boner,
It’s a commitment and a costly one.
My Madison Square Garden keeps gettin’ smaller
and I need less to be creative as my guitar playing evolves.
Still gassing’ just holdin’ the line.

And I'll still be GASing for more once my new purchases arrive...

I'm at the point where I want a good 2 channel amp in the front room and another out the back. So Black Cat with extension as a 1/4 stack in the back where I can aim it at a couple of rooms full of books/shelves to dampen the sound, and I'm thinking the Engl in front. I like my Orange Terrors, but the Rocker 15's clean channel is pretty sterile and needs pedals.

But most of the time I plug into a Yamaha THR10C. I know I'm more of a tone-chaser gear-nerd than player, let alone musician...

One day I'll get at least a 4x12 (or two) and a 100w monster. But I'll probably buy a Deluxe Reverb before then.

GAS is a disease. The sooner you get it under control the better. I don’t even know why I own the few doohickeys I do, but I do know that my spending is out of control.

I made a conscious decision to only go for big iron when it comes to amps, with the exception of a PRS Archon 25 combo I like for portability.

Tried a few lunchbox amps - Mesa Boogie Mark V:25, PRS MT-15, Victory Kraken. Sold all of them and kept the Archon, but the MT-15 is all kinds of awesome and is a great value at the price. Great clean channel and high gain channel in a small package. It uses 6L6s, iirc.

I do hear this, and intend one day to get myself a 4x12 or two and a 100w monster (or two). And a Fender Reverb of some kind.

Floor space and availability are issues for me. I can't buy a PRS MT-15 here. I can get an MT-100, Archon 50, HDRX50 or DGT-15 head.

No Supro, no Laney, no Friedman, no Suhr, no Milkman, no Morgan, no Benson, limited Victory (a Kraken is twce the price of a Fireball) and Bartel and Mesa Boogie seem a bit expensive - and I don't want another 1x12 combo. I can't even order the Rockerverb 50 I was considering but I can order a 100 (see 4x12 dream above). No Kemper either.

I don't trust shipping in Australia to deliver an amplifier in working condition (sorry Achillies!), and repairs would be a nightmare. If you aren't in Sydney or Melbourne, options are few.

I have 3 1x12 cabs if the extension cab for the Black Cat counts. I can fit a Black Cat 1/4 stack in the back room and another 1x12, with a 1x12 in the front room, currently an Orange with a Dark Terror on it. I intend to put the Marshall 1x12 and the Engl Fireball there, with the Black Cat on its cab and the other 1x12 there.

100w heads don't really fit at the moment. My GAS will continue, as will my rambling for the time being...
