JVM 410H - some discoveries; early days with it

Mostly positives so far. Everything seems to work okay, all 4 channels and the 3 modes of each, both masters and all the BMT, the reverb, loop, footswitch. And this thing can produce a heckton of damn fine tones. Like, everything from crystal cleans to seriously high gain - almost all of it usable, surprisingly.

The only thing I haven’t tried using is the other [preamp out / power amp in] loop.

The other loop (which I do use) is set to +4dB, which it apparently prefers. No issues with it, despite the numerous things I’ve read online. Just goes to show, hey. :) But nope, not for me - been running all kinds of effects in there: chorus, flanger, delays, reverbs, etc.

This amp deserves a better rep, IMO.

However…

There might be an issue with relative volume levels though: switching from some modes to some others, there’s a significant jump in volume. Not with all mode switches, however. And I don’t mean Clean Green, which while annoying (i.e., channel volume control need not apply), I’m aware of and can adjust for. Will have to double check, but I believe one of them might be Crunch Orange to Crunch Red. Can’t remember the other(s).

That, and I think at least one channel/mode setting is noticeably darker than the rest. Again, Crunch Orange is - I believe - the one, or one of them.

Definitely need to confirm which channel/mode setting(s) are potentially iffy, I know. Away from the amp right now, but felt like asking anyway. :p

How much of this seems normal to y’all JVMers out there? Could one or more of the tubes be to blame? I did buy it used…

I got my 210h last week-ish. Feature and functionality rich to the point of overkill tbh. Tones are STELLAR to my ears.

I cleared all the presets and cleared footswitch config to sort of start from scratch. Without presets; I have zero idea how they expect you to switch from clean/crunch to the OD channel with consistency. You would need to do some serious compensation on one channel or the other and even then; I would not trust using it that way live at all. As a stay on a single channel and sprinkle drives on top as needed; ooof! Congrats!

Really liking this amp with 2 (2025) V30s, closed back. Was good before, is even better now.

And so far, love Crunch (all modes) and OD1 (all modes). Clean orange and red also got game. And hey, OD2 will be useful at some stage, pretty sure. It’s basically OD1 with a different EQ setting, I gather..?

I don’t know why anyone has any issues with this amp regarding relative volume. It has all the controls required to make it work and match levels across the board. The mistake I see people doing is trying to use modes as channels.
It’s a great amp for an incredible price though.

I use the modes as channels with my 205C, but I run it in 4CM with my FM9 so each mode is volume matched and EQed in the Fractal.

JVM did modes GREAT. You can switch between them on the same channel, unlike Mesa. Channel volume is the limiting control when combined with outboard effects. Unless you are all-in like Frodebro and controlling it all remotely in conjunction with said outboard effects.

I got one last saturday and today is the first day I've been able to really go at it. I'm not an amp expert, I just know what sounds good to me. I really like finding the different tones I love with little effort and no stomp box. It's user friendly for sure. I think I'm keeping it.
