Does an amp make sense for what I'm describing?

Any possibility of going with a bigger 2x12 like a PPC212 or a deeper 1x12?

I wasn’t really happy with my V30 until I loaded it into a 14” depth cab.

I went 2x12 (11.5” depth) to 2x12 (14” depth) to 4x12 (14” depth) over the past few years. Once I started evaluating them in deeper cabs, I enjoyed my dirty tones much more.

I had no idea my Orange 1x12/V30 was so awful!

I currently have an Engl Fireball 25 connected and the Gain channel doesn’t seem fizzy or whatever – to me. And didn’t with Rocker 15 and Dark Terrors – to me.

The Bad Cat Black Cat combo and cab are specially made V30’s, and sound fine to me at low volume – although I have the extension cab in stereo with a Marshall 1912 (GB12-150) and an Engl Artist Edition 50 amp.

I almost always play low volume tube amps at home. Marshall DSL5C and Vox AC10C are my others.

Maybe ignorance is bliss in my case!
Do people usually find your passive aggressiveness charming in person?

From clips and from all the IR's I've used, the Creamback 65 is a pretty warm sounding speaker, doesn't have the V30 mid spike. Dave Friedman seems to use these in his 1x12 cabs quite a bit, so maybe in a smaller cab with fewer speakers it balances out a bit better?
The Creamback 65 is my favorite speaker. Absolutely love it with everything I’ve tried. Another thing to consider is that I think it might have a lower sensitivity rating vs the v30. It definitely sounds a little quieter to my ear than the v30 at the same volume…… but then again I might be wrong!

No, you're correct. It's got a lower sensitivity rating. 97 vs 100 on the V30.

It's true. You can do that. Confirmed by Howard Kaplan himself (the amp designer).
I'd go ahead and not do that, since this is in the owner's manual. Unless you mean in standby, with just the preamp sound out.

Headphone jack disables the speaker taps. I've ran it that way for long periods of time a bunch of times.
Then we should all be specific then, lest someone blow up their head.
From the designer:
"Yeah so hey EVH Gear, Howard said so. Yeah he did, on The Gear Page. What's that? Oh it's a web forum. What, it's not in your manual, so it's not covered under warranty?"

EDIT

I'm just saying that while it's true he, the amp designer confirmed it, I wouldn't do something like that unless it was in the manual.

Probably because no one said it was awful. But if you're saying it's awful, I'll take your word for it, as I've not played your cab.
There seemed to be quite a few comments about V30's and the Orange cab. I never thought mine fit these diescriptions until I read this thread, and am now on the lookout for bad tones from my 1x12's. 3 of my 4 1x12 speakers are V30's - 2 voiced for the Black Cat.

V30’s sounds great. They just have to be paired with the right amp, like any speaker.

Just stating facts in my quirky way. I really didn't know my 1x12 was awful etc.

YMMV :idk
The fact is that you love your 1x12. That's awesome. I bet I would also think you had great tone through it. If you had started a thread saying "I love my tone" and mentioned you were using a V30 loaded 1x12, the fact is I would not have replied to that thread with "surely not!!! A V30 objectively sounds bad. It's a fact!" Indeed, I personally tend to find that I sound thin and not great when playing Vox AC-style amps. yet...I love early U2 tones; Brad Paisley tones; and John Scofield tones when they play through them.

The thing that makes. this forum great is that a lot of us have been following each other, chatting with each other, and in this case even LISTENING to each other's playing for about a decade (for some even more?). I have heard a loooooot of great sounding clips that Jarick has made over the years. He gets great tone that is really smooth and quite balanced. When he posts about having trouble with tone and says he finds it to be bright and a little thin and not as warm as he'd like, despite knowing that plenty of people get great sound out of V30-loaded 1x12 cabs, it makes sense to let him know that my own personal experience using those cabs is that...they would not be the first I would choose for chasing the tones I've heard him post over the years and that my own experience is that they tend towards thin/bright in the context that he was using them.

Cheers. I'm TRULY glad that you love your cabs and likely get great tone out of them.
