It's true. You can do that. Confirmed by Howard Kaplan himself (the amp designer).Say what now?

There's no load in the 5150 50w. You can run them without a load......for a couple minutes. You knew that!
I'd go ahead and not do that, since this is in the owner's manual. Unless you mean in standby, with just the preamp sound out. It's true. You can do that. Confirmed by Howard Kaplan himself (the amp designer).
Headphone jack disables the speaker taps. I've ran it that way for long periods of time a bunch of times. There's no load in the 5150 50w. You can run them without a load......for a couple minutes.

Then we should all be specific then, lest someone blow up their head.Headphone jack disables the speaker taps. I've ran it that way for long periods of time a bunch of times.
"Yeah so hey EVH Gear, Howard said so. Yeah he did, on The Gear Page. What's that? Oh it's a web forum. What, it's not in your manual, so it's not covered under warranty?"From the designer:
EVH 5150 III 50W Part II
For anyone interested, Farmers Branch GC has one, in the Dallas, TX area. Jammed on it tonight. Plenty of gain. Big volume jump on first/second channel, at all volumes. Fun amp.www.thegearpage.net
Is this about Foggy? Then we should all be specific then, lest someone blow up their head.

Yeah, I'm still just raging over the injustice of that sweet boy.Is this about Foggy?![]()
Just stating facts in my quirky way. I really didn't know my 1x12 was awful etc.Do people usually find your passive aggressiveness charming in person?
Probably because no one said it was awful. But if you're saying it's awful, I'll take your word for it, as I've not played your cab.Just stating facts in my quirky way. I really didn't know my 1x12 was awful etc.

There seemed to be quite a few comments about V30's and the Orange cab. I never thought mine fit these diescriptions until I read this thread, and am now on the lookout for bad tones from my 1x12's. 3 of my 4 1x12 speakers are V30's - 2 voiced for the Black Cat.Probably because no one said it was awful. V30’s sounds great. They just have to be paired with the right amp, like any speaker. There seemed to be quite a few comments about V30's and the Orange cab. The issue seemed to be with the Orange Rocker 15 - I have the Terror, as well as a Dark - and the Orange cab.V30’s sounds great. They just have to be paired with the right amp, like any speaker.
The fact is that you love your 1x12. That's awesome. I bet I would also think you had great tone through it. If you had started a thread saying "I love my tone" and mentioned you were using a V30 loaded 1x12, the fact is I would not have replied to that thread with "surely not!!! A V30 objectively sounds bad. It's a fact!" Indeed, I personally tend to find that I sound thin and not great when playing Vox AC-style amps. yet...I love early U2 tones; Brad Paisley tones; and John Scofield tones when they play through them.Just stating facts in my quirky way. If that’s the case, I would suggest changing the opinion you have about a cabinet because one jack ass on the internet holds a negative opinion of that cab is not likely to lead to successWell, now I think I might be fooling myself/justifying my purchases since I didn't know better. The difference between my Marshall 1912 and the Black Cat V30 is noticable in stereo with my Engl AE50, which is somewhat adjusted by my having the Black Cat Combo running in stereo at the same time.
So I need to discern if I need to upgrade my 1x12's or what have you. I was somewhat surprised at this, so expressed that.
I'm just chasing tones for tube amps at low volume, and learning things that occasionally alarm, not always in a way that I want. If you have any better suggestions for 1x12's with Orange Terrors and Engl AE50 and Fireball, I'm all ears.
I'm not insisting I have the best setup or tone by any measure. I want better tones, in fact.
But if it's a whole lot of people agreeing... maybe I should try something else and find out. My only other reference point is the GB12-150 in my Marshall cab.If that’s the case, I would suggest changing the opinion you have about a cabinet because one jack ass on the internet holds a negative opinion of that cab is not likely to lead to success![]()
I don't know; none of those amps are what I would consider remarkable, at least for my tastes. The issue seemed to be with the Orange Rocker 15 - I have the Terror, as well as a Dark - and the Orange cab.
Is that a bad match? I bought the Ortange cab to go with the Orange Terrors.
Thank you so much for your contribution. Or should I be more actively aggressive about such useless comments?I don't know; none of those amps are what I would consider remarkable, at least for my tastes.
