We live in a different world these days. I thought the post was funny, because when I was a kid (70s) the adults used that line (“Aren’t you a big boy/girl) all the time.

It's exactly this. Even worse is if you are listening to say some news broadcast, the navigator will never interrupt when there is nothing of importance being said, instead it will do so at the exact moment the broadcaster is talking about the important part of the news item.
