NDSP Quad Cortex

This email from NDSP the other day made me laugh.

“The release of CorOS 3.0.0 in July added plugins to the Quad Cortex for the first time ever.

With the beautiful, versatile Archetype: Plini X and the heavy, aggressive Archetype: Gojira X, it was a strong start to a highly requested feature.”

Don’t they mean “a feature that we sold the entire QC premise on and then completely failed to deliver for years.”

They really are a bunch of complete and utter piss takers.
They probably think it too soon to say anything about that

I've been learning this tune all week...

And I've also been trying to recreate the sound of it. I tried all types of amps on the QC all week. I even tried use the Fender 65 Deluxe, which Lage does use, though I suspect for this tune he's actually using a Magic Amplification Vibro Prince 1X12, but it's hard to tell on the live video because they look the same from a distance.

Anyway this morning I remembered I have the Tone King plugin so I decided to give it a try. I got this for free at some point and I tried and didn't like it so it kind of got forgotten about. Though now I tried it again today with my new Wingman guitar which has single coil pickups I realise that this particular amp just works on a whole different level with single coil pickups. It sounds amazing and I've been able to get a sound quite similar to Lage's with very little effort.

While I don’t try to get his sound per se…his sound and playing are a “benchmark” in the back of my mind…and I could imagine him sounding like him using the sound I got here. (Switching off the time efx ;)).
Surprisingly it’s the Rabea plugin, the crunch amp, with the gain close to zero and the input even reduced a bit.

Incredible tone! And wonderful playing, ofc :love

Yeah I should be better at getting the tone I want with what I have. A guy on TGP got a great blues tone using the Nameless plugin.

I'm getting better all the time but I always find I'm missing some nuance or other and can never get quite where I want to.

Believe it or not, I’m considering a Nano. I’ve got so much access to killer amps, capturing is a no-brainer. Plus, if I absolutely had to, I could capture my FM9’s greatest hits. Stuff I’m waiting for:

  • Drive block. Come on, gimme some drives
  • More options in existing blocks. Different chorus effects, flanger, etc. different delays, reverbs. One at a time is fine; I just want more variety
  • Last thing would be amazing is a capture player plugin. Charge me $99-$149, don’t care. But id like that option in the box too.

Not sure you “should be” anything when it comes to music. I stumble on stuff by accident, and use that ;)
I got the plugin for the synth (the freebie for QC owners)

Afaik..JL gets his sound by hitting the front hard..untill it overdrives, and dial back bass and treble so you got a lot of mids left. Maybe a (virtual) blues breaker could do the trick hitting a fenders front.

Hey! There's a Blues Breaker on the QC.

I'll give that a try tomorrow. Thanks.

I am in the same boat , I think it’s a great format and super simple to use

There was a guy on the FB group that claimed to be a rep ( so take it w a grain of salt)
But he said NDSP was planning to move the gate so it was part of the amp block freeing up the pre fx for a drive block
He also said they had plans to add to each or the current fx blocks , with more delay verb options
My guess is perhaps they will reveal some of this roadmap at NAMM

A drive block , Dual Delay
And other plate or a great spring verb would definitely have me closer to pulling out the Visa

Yeah that makes sense. I GOTTA believe, that (despite my heavy cynicism of the company) they have to add at least more types of each effect. While I love the DC-2 and analog delay, those are only two colors of the crayon box.

QC experts - stupid question. is it possible to use the QC as a reamping box? And to clarify, I really mean just as a reamping box (most google results are showing me answers to different questions than I'm asking) , receive the DI track from interface, doing whatever line or impedance conversion that needs to happen, and then send that signal through a real guitar signal path?

Like literally just want to use a QC for the sole purpose of what your typical radial box would do, nothing else QCy
