NDSP Quad Cortex

There are still amps/effects missing from what they promised pre launch. Of course the plugin porting is still a work in progress.

Id be shocked if it ever reaches what was promises 3 years? Ago now. However with that said, it does everything most people need to in its currents state
You should not buy the QC based off of future updates, that’s for sure. I’m ok with it as is, and if it never got another update I’d get years of enjoyment out of it. That being said, I still look forward to what’s coming down the pipeline and have a bit of hope for cool shit.

Well grabbed my friends QC he was selling at a great deal becuase he went all in the box with Nural DAW plugins. I had heard the new software update on the QC was better blah blah so I thought why not go for a round three. 😂

The capturing of my amps is still a work in progress but definitely had some fairly decent results right off the bat. So to make sure I didn’t waste my time to not really getting what I was looking for…. I downloaded a couple of captures from @amalgam audio. Man he does great work. I had used his captures before and I knew I leaned into to liking his stuff. Well he didn’t disappoint and neither has the QC. Not sure what or if anything changed with the new software sound wise but yeah I’ll be gigging the QC for a good bit I think.

I had decided to sell or trade my Quad Cortex for an FM9...it's a cool unit but I'm trying to downsize my modelers and I think I prefer the Fractal.

Mine has an intermittent issue with the impedance occasionally dropping to the lowest value when restarting, even though it displays 1M. It works fine once you reset it, but if you don't it sounds super dark and low gain.

Kudos to NDSP support, my unit was purchased used and out of warranty, but they're going to work with me on a repair. I know they don't have the best reputation but assuming all goes well (and I'll update later with the outcome), I'll be way more likely to hang onto and recommend the unit knowing they do stand behind it.

Another anecdotal data point: They repaired my, long out of warranty, preorder edition QC for no charge when it developed a weird thermal noise issue last year.

I think those types of repairs, along with the updates after release, go a long ways towards building a brand.

It's funny because I look at the QC and I think "man it looks kinda fragile" but it's 3-4 years old and I don't think there's a scratch on it.

IT SURVIVED THE AUTOBAHN.

It did always feel fragile to me. I'll still stand by if I played outside of my bedroom it would take a good amount of shows to feel comfortable with it's longevity. But obviously people are using it live.

Same, I would need to get a rugged power supply and one of those plexi covers. Meanwhile I would rock an FM9 no issues as it's so rugged.

I was worried about the footswitches at first, but they seem to be going the distance for most folks(?)

The only part that worries me is the USB B connector, which I use all the time, and connect/disconnect frequently. These are pretty fragile wherever you find them.

As for the power supply, I'd recommend having a right angle connector on whatever you connect to the DC input, even if it's just an adaptor for the stock PSU. That should be enough to prevent any damage there. (On my mobile rig, I have a short DC cable with right angles at both ends that goes from a battery, through my pedalboard, and into the QC, so there's nothing exposed that might get stressed.)

I need an angled USB and power adapter to satisfy my OCD.

I need a right-angled USB adaptor that I can plug in once and leave in place, to satisfy my OCD and pessimism in one stroke. :D
