NDSP Quad Cortex

And I know Jynx it's going to think this is us being NDSP haters but when you advertise a device that can quickly make amp models (and have allegedly had this device for awhile now), idk why it's being a "hater" wondering where the new amps are at?

It just doesn't make sense.

They created a QA on Tina 8/1/2024.....over 4 months ago! And haven't answered a single question.

"Ask away". Guess they never said they'd answer 🤣

I don't know what they are doing either but the reissue Fender is amazing compared to what was there before.

I want amps to come faster too so I don't think anyone is a hater. But I hope this is the quality of them all going forward.

I more worried they intend going back and redoing some amps first. It's not that big a deal that some aren't as on par and I don't feel that's where their focus should be. We need Oranges, Revvs, Mezzabarbas, and Bad Cats.

Amps schmamps. There are plenty. The Transparent Blend block with full USB routing is what I call progress. :)

A decent spring reverb would be nice, but mainly for bragging rights. I don't cry in my beer when I'm forced to play through Hall or whatever. Sooner or later the MkII plugin will get PCOM, and even that has a better spring than the one in CorOS.

Idk that is kind of a big deal though. For example the dual rec is essentially unusable (if you are going for the DR tone). That's truly the only one that needs fixed.

But I agree, not every FAS model is as good as the whole batch but you can atleast find a top notch close 2nd just due to the sheer amount of amps

technically , I think they could stand to fix their Rectos, and if Tina can make a better model I am all for it , but I hear you
it shouldn't be all they are doing , if they want to redo an amp model or 2 and long as they add a couple of new ones I think that's win/win

I've sold a bunch of gear and decided to give the QC a shot since I really like the plug-ins. Arrives on Monday.

I've had about 30 minutes total with the QC so far. I went with my pass/fail test first which is running into a Fryette PS-2a and Friedman 1x12 Creamback M65 cab. The first try was just ok and a bit distracting due to noise (and getting used to the noise gates), but I moved the power supply to another spot and the noise level is much better now. The built-in models, captures, and plug-in amps are all "convincing" without tinkering and sound and feel natural through the guitar cab. I like how the Fender models break-up, too.

Looking forward to trying some other captures and testing with "FRFR". So far, so good!

I take you on your word about the quality of the Fender. And to @mbenigni's point, I think most of the core amp tones one could want are in there already too.

I look for amps to be added because A) TINA, so if it's legit, we should be seeing the fruits of its labor. B) It demonstrates a commitment to really pour into the platform instead of paywalling everything going forward.

The no reverbs in 3+ years and counting is just....blech. And I thought the same when Line 6 took three years to make ANY HX-engine reverbs (which might be worse, actually, in retrospect).

I get that reverbs are not just something you slap together (unless it's QC spring reverb), and it takes time to code the DSP and truly make it worthwhile. But not even a mention of new ones for QC in three years while the plugins get better reverb options in each of those years?

Their lack of updates and the small scope of each update is not really what anyone was expecting when they announced the pre-orders for this thing.

I don't blame people for feeling duped in some way.

Me? I'm on my 2nd unit, it is cool. A lot of fun to use. But I wouldn't ever take it out of the studio. TBH, I'm not even sure if I'll keep it.

I am really digging the '64. I don't know what's different, but it's so much easier to get levels right so I'm not fighting to be heard.

I'm on my 2nd and I still have my first. I've finally gotten over the "kid gloves" OCD stage, and I've got the 2nd one at rehearsals where I step on it and everything. :D No botulism... yet?

I'm sure the QC ticks a lot of boxes for some people hence why they chose it, which hey all the power to you, i always say there is not right no wrong just what works for you, as a company im not into them but I'm sure the QC is great product
PS while My Fractal has a Bazillion of everything I'm pretty sure il never use a fraction of what is available, but the many deep parameter now that i use constantly why im not much of Ohh but this Modeler has 7000 amps and 5000 Delays, i pretty much have my go too for delay and pitch and modulation which all work great, what i like in updates are Performance updates and QoL updates

:beer

At this point it is what it is. If someone is surprised at NDSPs actions (or inaction) it's on them.
I can agree with this. I wouldn't expect anything non-plugin related to happen for the next couple of years in QC land. If you can't live with that keep on not buying one.

Anything not plugin related that does manage to squeeze in feels like a bonus from that perspective. :p Owning all of the plugins doesn't hurt either...

Their mode of operation is very clear and has been consistent for a couple years now. They are methodically making QoL updates, fixes, etc; and trying make good on their PCOM commitment. Not expecting a lot of major new device models. This should surprise no one here.

It's primarily a captures first device, IME. I don't care much about new amp models, TBH. They're hardly needed. If they are going to do new 'device' models, they should focus on FX. That is something where they are not completely competitive in their price range.

I'm much more in favor of the data management improvements, etc, than new amp models. That was an absolute nightmare on the first FW. The subfolders thing has been awesome, f.ex. Side chaining is great, really awesome addition for gates, etc. They've done a bunch of stuff like this along with recent updates but people scorekeeping here don't notice it because they are just commenting on the thing not using it.

I think they even claim the capture aspect of it as the flagship feature in the manual?

But yeah I agree. My big "gripe" is just the contradictory statements, it annoys me 🤣

1) We have a device that we are flaunting that can spit out amp models but we've only created 1 new amp model

2) PCOM won't slow down QC updates but the majority of the updates are PCOM exclusive. Even as you said, I wouldn't expect significant non PCOM updates for a few years

Oh well 😀
