NDSP Quad Cortex

Yes apparently when they buy the coiks or canvas the noise is gone , at least what the FB users are saying
That is very interesting. I'll have to compare my studio QC (with "Golden Profits" PSU :rofl ) with my battery-powered QC and see if there's any significant difference.

Even from the Helix camp (I'm both Fractal and Line 6), both the QC effects selection and quality underwhelmed me.

Same thoughts here.

Fractal and Line 6 have IMO different approaches. Fractal covers a really wide variety of effects and excels in recreating the rich studio/rack style tones. Line 6 also has a good variety of effects and is more targeted at recreating individual pedals with their quirks. I think Line 6 is a lot more fun to mess around with because you're more building the virtual pedalboard, but the Fractal can be amazing if you want to really nail a specific sound because of the tweakability.

Meanwhile QC is closer to Line 6 but just way less variety, and less depth to the sound (thinking of reverbs here).

Remember the first several years of Helix, there were complaints about the reverbs. They were fine but nothing special. Same algorithms from the old M-series units. Then they started to release updates with richer and more interesting reverbs. Now you have a ton of options that can do more of the Strymon thing.

But QC is still in that "legacy" reverb mode, where you have a handful of basic options that sound fine but aren't exactly inspiring, especially compared to Fractal, Line 6, Strymon, and others who are much further along.

I stand corrected. They added a 64' Deluxe Reverb hand-wired variant to go with the existing non-hand-wired 65' Deluxe Reverb. Reminds me of Headrush and the JCM800 variants they kept piling on as "new" amp models.

My point on the lack of progress stands.

Agreed on lack of progress...there's been two updates since I've owned it over the last year. Granted they had a lot of catch up work to do previously. But seems like they are focused on rebuilding all the plugins and that seems like it's going to take quite a while.

FWIW the new Deluxe is pretty sweet. I'm not sure of many gaps they have for amps right now, it may be fun to have more boutique options, would love to have a bunch of Friedmans to play with.

Me? I'm on my 2nd unit, it is cool. A lot of fun to use. But I wouldn't ever take it out of the studio. TBH, I'm not even sure if I'll keep it.

Same...I've been so close to selling my QC a bunch of times but then realize it's nice as a standalone unit like I'm using now.

My Axe3 has sat on the floor, unplugged, for about two weeks. :wat

Blasphemy! Get that thing off the floor!

I really like the ability to add more than one capture, and I may not have purchased the QC if it didn’t have that ability. I have always just used my physical Maxon OD because I just liked it better than any OD model I’ve tried (even if it were just a sliver better, or in my head, idk). I captured it with the QC last night and it sounds damn near identical, and now I’ve taken my physical OD out and everything is in the QC.

This is an underrated feature. Does any other unit have multiple captures?

It's really cool that you could capture multiple amps and pedals and be able to run them all in the same preset. For some people the QC will be head and shoulders better than any other device for that reason.

To me the biggest missed opportunity is not having a good marketplace or means of sharing captures. Of course Kemper has tons of stuff available, even if MBritt was the only option he still has thousands of professional profiles available. Tonex has a marketplace now too where you can get quality captures.

Right now, the only way to get QC captures is to browse the cloud app or to be "friends" with someone who will share some with you. It's a pain in the ass for everyone involved. Just speaking for myself, I have no interest in the trial and error bullshit sifting through random captures. 90% (maybe more) are just people who captured another modeler. And the good profilers aren't going to waste their time creating captures if they have to individually share them with each buyer for each product.

Disclaimer: I haven't messed around with Amalgam captures which sound like they'd be awesome. But again this is where it would be great to have a marketplace, especially if you could demo some of them before purchasing.

For what it's worth Amalgam does have some free caps

Nice what did you use?
That is my captured Maxon OD into a capture of a Mesa Mark V 35 on the IIC setting, into the Dream Chorus, and then delay and reverb on a split path. I'd share my preset but it has a paid capture in it, and I don't know if it's ethical to share the amp capture.

Edit: If I share a preset, and it has a capture that was shared with me (i.e. I paid for the amp capture), if I share the preset, is the preset shared without the capture that was shared with me? Sorry if I didn't get my question across more clearly!
