That's true, I bought the cheapo clone from Caline ("Mellow Drive") before I got the HX FX, and the HX "Dhyana Drive" sounds almost identical. The Zendrive sounds killer with the 5e3 and Superlead too. That surprised me. At first there was too much wool but a slight bump in the tone and voice knobs get everything sounding and feeling great.
I get the popularity. The dumble thing has never been my thing, but this pedal works with a broad range of amps and IMO brings its own thing to the table.
This one is sticking around.
Except for the tube Zendrive. good grief! Must be very limited supply of those.Reverb prices on Lovepedals are coming down to reasonable prices now. Seems about a year ago you were seeing everything for $200-$300, even if it just sold in an SNS for $100.
That is a Hermida pedal, not a Lovepedal version.Except for the tube Zendrive. good grief! Must be very limited supply of those.

So I have to walk this back, but for valid reasons. In a comparison last night, the HX model sounded like a much darker, softer, lower gain version. That's true, I bought the cheapo clone from Caline ("Mellow Drive") before I got the HX FX, and the HX "Dhyana Drive" sounds almost identical.
10/10 on looks alone!View attachment 11574
I spent about a half hour with it, definitely not enough time to hear everything it can do. It doesn’t help that I have no clue what the fucking knobs do. Seems live Level, Fuzz, Bias(Tone?) Having to play at such a low volume it’s hard to hear what’s going on with the first two knobs below the halfway point, I need some daytime hours with it.
I dig it though, if the GE Dover were considered half fuzz/half distortion, this takes over where the fuzz part of that left off. There’s a definitely some usable tones in the lower gained ones. The thing I dig the most is that there’s a ton of room before it gets all nasty sputtery in the high end area. I’m anxious to find it’s sweet spot!
Very nice! Although my eye is twitching a bit with that right side knob.View attachment 11574

A famous philosopher once said "The key to knowing good tone is in not knowing at all."Isn't that part of the mythic allure of these pedals and somewhat amgiguous characteristic of each variant of the pedal. It's up there with the whole SNS chase....
