Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

Can’t argue with genius, but I still think it sounds like ass, when pretty much everyone else does it.
Probably because you're dialing in the effect the same way as when you'd have it after the amp. Spatial effects before distortion need to be dialed in a bit differently. Lower mix values generally, shorter decay or feedback times depending on taste.

If I were to put the Cosmos Echo before an amp, I'd probably only have the mix around 15% but the distortion of the amp will bring out the character of the effect, and I like it because it adds glue and bounce to the performance, as the effect and the dry signal fight to maintain dominance when hitting the front.

Whenever I add effects in the loop, I always feel like I can't get it to be mushy enough.

It would be interesting to figure out if there’s a consistent demarcation line that separates these two camps.

Verb and delay in the loop sounds like 80s hairspray rock to me. I actively run from that stuff, it gives me the ick. Maybe if I’d been born 7-10 years earlier I’d be on team fx loop. Or I’m just lazy.

The amp I used to use live didn’t have an effects loop worth using so I had a sizeable pedal board in front of the main input….. in these digital days I tend to put reverbs last but I occasionally play, depending what I’m trying to achieve.

Don’t trouble me with the science.

Obviously it all depends on the sound you're after. I mostly used delay, pitch and chorus for stereo separation. If stereo isn't important then anywhere can work. For me, low decay reverb and 100ms zero feedback mono delay go fine into mid gain Marshally stuff. (like the amps of their day with no effects loops) Heavy distorted amps can be messy IMO. (unless that's what your after.)

I just dropped a video re-going through all this stuff with Stadium vs TMP (can link it but not my intention here)
I feel like I managed to dial in the TMP to be "identical" to the stadium but I had to ramp up the presence to get there (I show the settings in the video). But yeah once both were dialled in, actually playing through either felt "the same" imo.

Either way, Soldano conquered lol. Back onto the Revv's next week.
So, you have now had both the Stadium and Tone Master Pro for a decent amount of time. Any overall thoughts on how they compare with a little more experience under your belt? I've had both, but not at the same time, and liked a lot of things about both. I feel like maybe the Stadium sounded better overall, but not having them side by side makes it a low value data point.

Preferences or goals. Nothing consistent. Do you want the effects to be colored by the preamp or not?

Some folks like the way it sounds in front of the amp because they grew up playing amps that didn't have effects loops. Some folks like their distortion modulated and some like their modulation distorted.

I havent had a session sitting there A/Bing the sounds but for what I want out of high gain they both get there pretty quickly and easily. If I have time I'll pull a 2-3min tone on each and post our fav kind of blind test here later.

It's also interesting being being on this side of the fence with youtube and a bunch of gear. I remember watching Ola Fluff Leon etc... wow room full of all that gear thats crazy I'd play this/that. I dont have anywhere near as much them but I can still go 2-3 weeks not turning on the TMP and months between certain amps because I'm doing a bunch of other stuff constantly. Some other guy with just those 2 units would have a lot more milage on them etc.

I think I will post something later, I'm interested how this will turn out. Probably SLO vs SLO because they're both on there.

Wrote some riffs. But they're not very Summerisle.
