Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

Hey Mikah! Seems like 2nd time had the charm! Thanks for the cool preset! Any idea what caused the amp to disappear? Were you mismatched with firmware and app builds?

I think that was it. Not sure why it recognized the amp for a sec and then disappeared shortly after, but I'll be cognizant of that.

Hope you enjoy it! More to come!

No new factory presets means I gotta make more of my own. This one is for @JiveTurkey and @GTR37 in particular.

Think this one might be my "modded Marshall" fave right now. This is a Silver Jubilee preset, and that amp is so fun and dynamic to play, even with the Lead channel cranked! Still tons of dynamics.

Anyway, this preset is called Sunset Strip for my "hair metal" fans. Four snapshots!
  1. Lighterup - Acoustic sim with 10-band EQ, multiband compression, plate reverb and chorus. Perfect for the intros to 80s standards
  2. Sleazy 80s - Lead channel in full roar going into the Brit V30 coupled with the Greenback 20 cab. Seriously, the picking dynamics here are crazy. You could play kinda "clean" verses with soft picking and full-on saturated Kerrang just by changing your attack.
  3. Solo time - Self-explanatory lead snapshot
  4. Balladry - The clean electric patch we need for verses and bridges.
See attached.

Don’t have the XL just waiting on stadium but will definitely add this to the downloads
So far clips of Jubilee i have heard have been promising
In the words of an Aussie Legend “ it’s doing the thing “

Some initial thoughts on the IIC+:

If Agoura needed an amp to
Showcase its clean -> medium breakup dynamics, this is it. Hands down my favorite clean channel in Stadium. Engage the bass shift to get a more traditional Fender bass slope, dial drive to taste, crank the master up a bit higher and it gets sweeter. This is also a great spot to try the class A power setting for a slightly different vibe. There’s a reason Prince toured with a pair of these.

The lead channel on the IIC+ kind of picks up where the Rhythm channel leaves off..L6 got all of the pull switch functionality right, all seems to respond like the real amp. I cannot over-stress how useful it is to have access to those alternate functions. Additionally the percussive high gain stuff feels GREAT under the fingers.

I am struggling at the heavier end of the spectrum just a bit. There’s a certain unpleasant honk that pushes forward in an unpleasant way when pushing the treble up over 8 with my Les Paul. We’re not talking about the normal boogie mark series honk. This is a bit higher than that. I’m going to try some YA IRs to see if I can investigate more.

I too have struggled with high gain in general in the Stadium.

Cleans and edge of break up...heck even 80s metal, fantastic both sonically and from a feel standpoint.

Anything for modern metal just falls apart for me. It doesn't have the cut it needs and just feels honky. Just my 2c 😀

Just want to say thank you for sharing presets. I hope that more people will do that, now that it's easy to do on this site. You can learn a lot by seeing how other folks are building their rigs. (y) (y) (y)

Did the Agoura 5153 Red change for the worse in this update? My preset that sounded good before the update got super honky and bass heavy at the same time. Can’t dial out the honk.

It's a bit of a shame that the IIC graphic EQ is not possible to represent as an actual graphic EQ. It would be cool if Line6 offered something in the focus view for this where it would show slider EQ so you can easily see the relationship between the GEQ bands like on the real amp.

While you could slap an EQ block after, it would not be the same thing as it being built into the amp model.

The separator line to differentiate between Agoura and OG amps is displayed on the device but not on the app.

It would be nice to have a clear way indicating which amps are based on the new modeling tech (Agoura).

I guess all HX models with be moved to an "HX guitar/bass" category (or just the current "Legacy" ones) when there are enough Agoura channels so it doesn't feel like Helix Stadium has very few amps, but I think it will take at least a year, if not more.

Hopefully we don't have to wait until all amps are ported to Agoura. That would be endless.

Thanks so much!

Ha well that Star Wars thing was a ton of fun to put together. We used some Galactic Empire stuff as the inspiration. Really appreciate that. Sean helps me dial in all the higher gain presets we make - everything in the past 12-18 months or so.
Hi Brian! Slightly off topic, but I've noticed in your videos that you're using your Custom 24 a lot more lately. As a Custom 24 enthusiast, are you starting to prefer it more than the DGTs? Also, are you back to the stock 85/15 pickups? I think you had Lambertones in it 24 for a while. Thanks!

I’m surprised they didn’t do that considering the QC has the slider EQ in their JP2C

  • Drat. Must've been a copypasta error on my part. Updated
  • Definitely a bug. Igor and I have been talking about it this very week
It's impressive how quickly they resolve/correct things and receive this kind of feedback from the public. This is what truly sets them apart from other companies. And I'm not just speaking about this specific case; their after-sales support is the best.

Yeah, it seems as though it's either all knobs or all sliders, which goes against the original amp design in the first place. It's a similar thing with the push pulls being on their own knob. It gets the job done but I was hoping this gen of modellers would get things a bit more close to using the real thing (this still requires tabbing through pages and being careful with making sure you adjust the right knob for whatever page you're on). Interacting with the amp controls is the same as it was on the previous gen, essentially (there are just more different ways to adjust if you want).

I like the idea of using the touch screen for the GEQ and probably the switches too, although I think I would have been OK with having the push/pull switches as encoder presses. It's definitely a big step in the right direction from Fractal where you don't always have corresponding modes in the same model, and switching between them via amp models can wipe things. A big ass touchscreen is really useful for those kind of "bespoke" controls that might be on one amp but not another, or benefit from a different way of interacting with it.

I can see why L6 did it "the old way" but IMO it's not really taking full advantage of interacting with an amp given the newer tech on hand. If the most important knobs were on encoders, and the GEQ and switches were on the touch screen, you could probably get it all on one page and have a more 1 knob per function behaviour.

Many thanks for the update - I had all of 10 mins on it last night through headphones so can’t comment on the amps other than the jubilee sounded awesome through phones :)

Showcase - I managed to drop a wav file in there for backing and jammed along which was great fun. I need to read the manual to figure how to change settings at key moments - I’d had a really long day and my brain wasn’t braining to work it out without looking it up.

Did I dream it or did Eric say that stem separation would take place fairly soon at a future update (I know it wasn’t due yet). If that’s definitely coming, can someone please recommend a (preferably free!) piece of software that does this to get me started until the Stadium / stadium app will do it for me? It’s something I’m really looking forward to and if my (very lovely) XL will do it soon anyway then I don’t want to be spending too many Timbucks on a solution that will be short term.

The download was slow for me, must have been pulling it in while the servers were swamped. But it went off without a hitch. I got distracted with something I'd been messing with over recent days and spent almost no time with the new amps. I did download the Mesa preset @micah912 put up since I'm not at all familiar with the amp. I enjoyed the cleaner tones in it a little more than the really gained up ones, but that's more a matter of taste. I also caught a bit of a JNC video where he dialed in sort of a pushed clean on it that I thought was glorious so maybe today I'll explore that side of the Mesa a little more. Of the bugs that addressed in 1.2, I wasn't experiencing any of them in 1.1, so no observations there. I also didn't even think about checking out showcase. Maybe over the weekend. That will need a block of time I think.
