Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

Not really that arsed about sliders, knobs, proper GEQ representations, etc etc.

That stuff comes much lower down the list of priorities for me. The very first thing is ... I just want the thing to sound accurate and realistic to real amplifiers.

Many thanks for the update - I had all of 10 mins on it last night through headphones so can’t comment on the amps other than the jubilee sounded awesome through phones :)

Showcase - I managed to drop a wav file in there for backing and jammed along which was great fun. I need to read the manual to figure how to change settings at key moments - I’d had a really long day and my brain wasn’t braining to work it out without looking it up.

Did I dream it or did Eric say that stem separation would take place fairly soon at a future update (I know it wasn’t due yet). If that’s definitely coming, can someone please recommend a (preferably free!) piece of software that does this to get me started until the Stadium / stadium app will do it for me? It’s something I’m really looking forward to and if my (very lovely) XL will do it soon anyway then I don’t want to be spending too many Timbucks on a solution that will be short term.
I've been using Moises - I think you can use the basic stem seperation and export on a free account.

Loving the Showcase feature; now I can finally show the drummer how the intros are SUPPOSED to go....

Different priorities. I'm increasingly finding myself not caring about anything but "do I like how this sounds and plays", and the more important thing to me is how much I like working with the modeler.

Which then has put me into a weird spin of "yeah I really like how the Stadium works but do I even need one when I'm just going to use a very simple rig with it?" vs just sticking with my Strymon pedalboard and taking the time to program MIDI control for it to be better.

Same here at the moment. Remind me, is this a forum that has line 6 peeps on it? Meaning would we get any commentary from line 6 here? Anybody else have any ideas other than saturated servers?
You'll need to make sure you're logged in on the hardware, otherwise you'll get that error. For some reason, many people including me were logged out.

Yes, Digital Igloo (Eric Klein), Frank Richotte and several other Line 6 folks post here regularly.

I updated to 1.2 over Wifi, but keep being told in the 1.2 editor on Mac that there's an update, and to update over USB. No way to refresh this - so I'm re-installing the update over USB.

As others have said, logging in was the solution. The error message is not particularly helpful.

Why not both is my answer on this.

Sure. The issue is, I'm starting to not much like how Stadium is sounding. :(

I think how Stadium works is pretty much the best option in terms of how it works right now - even with the whinge-warts we could raise.

The Agora amp is more life like in feel and response to me also.

The odd part is the tone stack is so different from the amp and HX model at the similar setting. I am not saying it IS the tone stack, but something is injecting mids.
I always thought alot of the HX models lacked mids. They were also overly bright and harsh which is why so many people were using hi cuts by default on many models. Sounds like Agoura has addressed all of this. Keep in mind I'm a clean to mid gain player. The heaviest amp I use is the BE-100 (placater)

I hate to say it, but so far, I'm in this camp. It's to the point where I'm sure I must be doing something wrong, whether it's input impedance or noise gate or something else, but everything sounds kind of...weak. I haven't had a whole lot of time to really dig into it, but with two different guitars so far, it seems like the noise gate is choking the tone or something. Raising the threshold doesn't seem to help. I'm going to experiment with different cables, etc., as well as running it through something other than the Powercab 112 I have in my music room. Also, last night I was continuously getting disconnected in the app on MacOS Tahoe which could be due to various other things I didn't have time to run down. I was hoping to try and work this into my live rig, but that's not going to be an option yet.

I'm watching Sadites video about showcase and it's of course is awsome.
The looper intergration looks really promising.

I've noticed that when setting snapshots changes (Sadites used flags) the interface shows a generic snapshot # name instead of the actual sanpshot name. I think that sould be modified. @Digital Igloo

I think it sounds good overall. I think there is, for me, at least; a very similar sweet spot between all high gain amps as well as the mid gain stuff. It could certainly be me not wanting to pull away from cabs I like or just dialing things in similarly for each "tier" of gain?

You think it’s that bad?

I’m impressed with the clean and mid gain. I don’t have a IIC+ here to direct compare right now but my Studio Preamp -> 2:90 and Mark III both do that thing. Interestingly, Agoura feels more like the Studio Preamp than the Mark III, which is encouraging because the Studio Pre IS closer to the IIC+ preamp design. The Mark III feels different.

Agoura’s take on it seems pretty authentic up until I get into the heavies, where even with the master down on 2.5 the low end/low mids seem tubby/blocky and there’s a very “modeler” sounding honk an octave or two higher than the usual boogie honk that becomes increasingly prominent as the treble comes up. TBF I also detected this artifact in the Fractal model up until the latest AM4 firmware 2 nights ago…it’s a bit better now.

I’m going off memory though. I owe some comparisons I’ll try to get to next week.

In short, I think it’s a reasonable start. I’m sure L6 is still tuning this new modeling and I do think there’s room for improvement here but also want to acknowledge what I think they are getting right.

I noticed that the default noise gate setting (-48db) does seem to affect the sound slightly. It does get rid of all the noise, but I noticed it tends to make the sound a little duller because at that point it seems to start affecting the picking dynamics. I lowered it to -60db for all my presets and that seems to be a good balance. It will depend on how much noise you have to deal with though, but it is something I noticed.
