The KPA forum has always been *very* tightly held - even for all the years the KPA was the only game in town - I always thought it was just a cultural-German-European kind of thing (?)
But in the last 2 years especially, there are less and less new posters, and very little criticism is tolerated - its just shouted down by either mods or more often that not, "rusted-on" users - its taken a very inward-almost-paranoid vibe - I can only put it down to the impact of things like Tonex, NAM etc....
I don't think KPA or the units are going away any time soon - especially for all the mid-to-top-tier touring bands and pro studios - but for everyone else - which is probably a f*ck-ton % of the market - their general level of un-happiness seems to be really growing.
Its really weird too because CK is absolutley onto something amazing with his LP approach, but even that - its now ~18 months old - and no new "amp stacks" have been added.
The whole "paid-levels" model for the Player has also been a major misstep which could have been %100 avoided if it was released at the right [substantially lower] price but it has left a terribly bad taste in the mouths of many people who were, or may have become, KPA users.
It bares being clear about things - the latest "downward feature adding" just announced was not done because the units are selling like hot cakes

They get EXTREMELY defensive about the idea that the Kemper isn't accurate. Ridiculously so. You don't see that with a lot of other people.
There's some weird thing in the water I guess.

I love physical knobs as much as anybody, but I think a screen would add a helluva lot more usability to the Kemper Player.
I'm talking about nothing but a small version of the screen you find on the Stage and Toaster. Show the preset name and a few parameter values.
I think you could cram a display into the Player format or close to it if you put it above the five knobs on the bottom and put the Fx1/2 etc functions on a 2nd layer, cram the master volume in place of rig vol etc.

Agreed! Now I have to figure out how to return these two Kemper Players with Level II. Hopefully Kemper will somehow let me return/remove the upgrades due to the circumstances. 100%. That forum is very much parroting the party line. Most manufacturer forums are but that one is particularly bad.
It's just very weird that Kemper would keep working to support a product that's been around for 15 years free of charge, but then releases another product based on the same design, artificially limits it, then charges money to "upgrade" back to standard functionality.
The only way that would make sense is if you are selling the units for cheap, but the Player is the most expensive of the compact modelers. Tonex is $400, Nano Cortex is $550, HX Stomp is $600, and Kemper Player is $700 plus $150 for the upgrade. A new upgraded Player is more expensive than a used full fat toaster.

It's almost like any product forum is going to house the most "dedicated" users. Not saying it's right but I think it further proves every product has its extreme fans

I have a toaster, and at first I thought I'd go over there and participate as I have with other product forums. It didn't take long to figure out that any mention of limitations, problems, bugs, and so on was rather ham-fistedly discouraged. If you have an issue, "contact support" and don't air the dirty laundry in public. I didn't get kicked off the island, but I didn't see the point in sticking around either.

Add in the Hotone Ampero 2 Stomp at $500 and Boss GT-1000 Core at $600.
The Nano Cortex and Kemper Player are easily the worst value products on that list. One is severely hampered by having next to no fx built in, and the other requires you to pay extra for more fx on top of a higher base price.
Kemper is perhaps in a tough spot where if they gave all the tier features for the base price, people would wonder why the Kemper Stage is double the price.
It's easy to say e.g Fractal FM3 -> FM9 warrants the price increase for the extra footswitching, I/O, f.sw displays and double the horsepower. With Kemper it would be more like the Hotone situation where the few hundred more expensive Ampero 2 Stage is basically A2 Stomp + extra I/O, footswitches and BT support, but no extra DSP.

This is cool also..but I’d defenitly miss the knobs it sacrifices….2nd layer doesn’t get you on/off switching, vol 2nd is taken atm, the connectivity stuff would need a new place…so it’s not without impact,,,adjusting fx & master I do pretty much every time I use the unit..stuff that needs a screen only at set up, and is better handled by RM on iPad anyway.
Looks like I’m fine with screenless and wouldn’t trade much for it
..so at least for some peeps it’s a great design as is.

I love my two KPP units. I mean for me, it's perfect for acoustic, bass and electric gigs. What I don't love is their management / marketing / how they treat their customers. So now what? Here's the thing though...once you get past the price, the Kemper is doing exactly what you want. Selling them to buy something else doesn't hurt Kemper. IMO just keep using them but don't give them any new business.
Right now I don't see a ton of innovation in the modeling space. You have more devices doing captures in smaller units but that's been around a few years now. The big dogs have all been on their current platforms for several years now and nothing new is expected around the corner. So go with what works best for you, and that seems to be Kemper, which you already have.
The only other option that to me makes sense would be if you did NOT like the Kemper Player, wanted to use Tonex for capturing, and then something else for effects.
