IK Multimedia TONEX

OK thanks - one last question (sorry).... does the larger Tonex pedal show the patch name on the display, or the amp name? If I choose a patch, I want it to show the patch name (for example CLEAN-1 / CRUNCH-4 / LEAD-2), not the amp type. Thanks!

I use Amalgam captures and I edit the names to just show the amp and settings - for instance "MKV/I CL" = their Mark V on channel 1's clean setting. I'm still in the phase where I'm playing with a ton of captures so I haven't set it up to have custom names like that (because right now "crunch" would be unhelpful for me, but if I were playing live I'd want to be able to see them like CLEAN-1 / CRUNCH-4 / LEAD-2.

Spent some time with the update tonight. The delays and mods strike me as very run of the mill stock digital effects. Not much personality, best kept subtle.

I did manage to lose 2 hours playing a bunch of the IK and Amalgam Superlead captures. :rofl

Not super impressed by anything I’m hearing on the modulation side. Leave it up to IK to put a level knob on a phaser instead of feedback.

... only 5 mins in and they are without any question some of the worst sounding captures / profiles etc.... I've ever heard out of any "copying" platform ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Another question... when profiling an amp with presence and resonance, how do you set them so that when you play the profile back through the amp, that it sounds the same?
You wouldn’t be able to play them back through the same power amp without it doubling down on the sound of that power amp. If you were going to run a profile through a guitar power amp you’d want to profile the preamp only.

Yeah those seem like pretty good updates overall. I'd need to see someone actually use it, but I think it still doesn't solve what I feel are the core issues:
  • Lack of metadata. Finding captures still relies a lot on the capture name, pedal and cab name.
  • Input/reference levels, so the capture behaves the same regardless of what was used to make the capture. NAM solved this by baking input/ref levels to the capture metadata, I hope IK adapts this for any future captures.
  • Editing anything beyond the basic two layers on the knobs of the big Tonex pedal itself is a proper nightmare. At least now you can do that from the editor app so maybe that removes a lot of the pain.

IK released a new editor software:

Wow! That looks like a better improvement than I hoped for, by a large margin!
Until I use it and come away with my blood pressure normal I’m going to be skeptical. However, I have almost bought another TONEX Pedal at least 5 times in the last two months because the sounds are all there. I had managed each time to resist the repurchase out of a sense of self preservation. Now it looks like I need to jump back in and find out.

IK released a new editor software:

Finally. I bought the little Tonex pedal last year and immediately returned it after using their app. While I love my FM9, it does take a lot of tweaking to make the amps in the box not sound plasticky and I always prefer my real amps through a load box to the models in basically any modeler. Using a Tonex with a VP4 would be a fantastic little rig, so if IK’s software really is more intuitive now, I might be swayed to pick up a Tonex pedal.

Weren't they putting out a Pro something or other at NAMM? I never saw anything about it after that initial screenshot.

Do it! I find myself tweaking way lesser since I got the Tonex One. and now with this update, it will make it a no-brainer

Can we actually edit the pedal from the software now or is it still a total joke?
