Hotone Ampero II Stage MP-380

Well, with those set of thoughts, Hotone might think it’s ok to use the tech they’ve given us currently in a few models and wait until a new hardware platform is run through the ringer and then offer it in full. That doesn’t make sense to me. Why offer something fully capable of running now and then hold it back? Seems like a chain yank. I choose to believe they are trying to get the software/FW up to speed. Much like the recent capture handout on your model. But go ahead, encourage them to leave us hanging. The truth is… you don’t know at all. You’re just speculating and that pessimism may very well cost us all. NUX has incorporated quite a few “HQ” models on their $200 Amp Academy and continue to do so. I’m really starting to have a problem with those smart enough to point out shortcomings in current offerings (serving the greater good) while declaring they just will never happen or be resolved.

I’m beginning to understand why you love simple gear like the BluGuitar Amp. It doesn’t really offer too much beyond solid basics. How can it let you down? Lighten up a bit. Things are in flux. Why so serious?

Oh please, anything I say will have no bearing on what Hotone does. You know I'd love updates as much as anybody.

I'm going purely by what they've done in the past. The 2nd gen Ampero Stomp came out 3 years ago, and came with "all new" modeling. Since then they've added like maybe a couple "HQ" models to it. That's why I expect they keep their advancements for a next gen unit.

We have to remember the price point here. That relies on volume sales and does not have as much R&D allowance baked into the price as e.g Fractal or Line6 at 2.5-3.5x cost.

These updates bring new effects, enhanced functionality, and exciting new features like Ampero AI, which automatically generates patches based on your voice or text input (English only). We encourage you to give it a try and provide feedback as we continue to improve this beta feature!

Ampero II Stage Firmware Release Note
Version 1.3.3

Notice
*Please ensure that you use the latest Ampero II V1.2.1 software to update the firmware.
*This firmware update optimizes the Bluetooth search function, but this optimization requires an updated wireless driver version for the Ampero. After you complete the firmware update using the Ampero II V1.2.1 software, the wireless driver update will be automatically pushed. Therefore, please ensure to wait for a period of time after the firmware update is completed. During this time, do not power off the ampero, disconnect the USB, or close the software until the wireless driver update is successfully completed.
*To prevent any possible issue, please backup your patches first before updating.

New Effects
1. A vocal effect model added to the FREQ module:
Vocal Harmony – Automatic vocal pitch correction/shift effect
2. A bass effect model added to the DRV module:
Bass Grinder HQ – Next-gen effect algorithms based on Tech 21® SansAmp® Bass Driver DI*
3. A new effect model added to the MOD module:
Feedback – Amp feedback/howling simulation effect
4. A new reverb model added to the RVB module:

NOICE!

Probably like the positive grid stuff not sure how great it will be but maybe if you want specific tones like a green day or Metallica it pulls up some settings
Yeah I think Hotone considers their real competition to be stuff like Positive Grid Spark, Mooer etc rather than the more expensive modelers we know and love. So it's no wonder they are adding similar features.

I do wish they focused more on improving the sounds or existing features though, but that's not marketable in the same way.

The Chinese modelers always dominated the bottom segment of the market. Hotone is unique because they are firmly in the ring with the likes of Line6 and Fender. At this point, its an incredibly compelling product, even when being measured against units such as the ToneMaster Pro or Quad Cortex. Not saying its better than either of those units necessarily, but that it is rightfully deserving to be in the same conversation.

Been very impressed with the frequency of updates lately. Curious to try the AI thing, but I'm not putting too many eggs in that basket. I am far more interested in the new reverb algorithm. The feedback effect could be good fun as well.

Yep they are definitely the most impressive thing coming from overseas , the build quality looks really really good
Now that they have CPU meters , that will be helpful
But that’s one area they could focus on , trying to optimize and get some cpu back
Especially on things like tone catch and using delay and rev simultaneously

Yeah the build quality seems very good. I have had zero issues with the A2 Stomp so far. There are some spots on the edges of the metal case where the paint on my red 10th anniversary edition has worn off (was like that when I bought it used).

The computer editor has crashed a few times, but no problems on the actual unit, and the only bugs that I've noticed are the broken "virtual capo" type effect, and the Dumble ODS2 models' bright toggle does not work like a bright switch but somehow reduces volume and does weird things.

I reported a bunch of little annoyances (e.g IR/cab block settings resetting if you change the model) and the above issues, plus the way the master volume amp models don't go into poweramp distortion. I got an auto reply from Hotone that they were on vacation at the time but since then haven't heard back.

How long ago did you make the report?

This looks like a deal for those interested. I show pre-tax price of $506 for the Stage on AliExpress with free shipping.

I reported a bunch of stuff to their tech support, and they were like "pick a couple and maybe we'll take a look" kind of attitude. They don't seem to want to hear about problems or suggestions.

Just a quick update on my use. I upgraded the firmware last night. It took an extra step or two when the installation of the new software didn’t go well. I had to uninstall and reinstall a couple of things but it finally took. Perhaps an uninstall of the previous version first would have helped.

I didn’t have time to test the AI or capture functionality but…. I did take the Progressive Shredder patch and loaded up the Soldano HQ, Digital Delay HQ and Velvet Verb HQ in to it along with everything else in the original patch left running. I had no issues with the apparent CPU usage shown on the new CPU utilization meter. In fact going from regular to HQ models seemingly had little impact on what it was showing. And it sounded great, seriously, to me.

Creating that tone was easy, all done via the touch screen in no time. I ended up with a two hour jam session, sometimes with, other times without, onboard drums. I came up with two new riffs with hooks that were just so much fun and reminded me of why I play. When you are just in the zone and things are working well creatively and technically. I mention that just to emphasize what I’ve said before about the Stage and Stomp, they are so much fun… really, really fun! And quite easy to use. I think a firmware update that adds more HQ models and effects would just be stellar or if that never happens, the Ampero III Stage will likely be on my watch list. There’s just so much I love about how this thing is designed. If we could het those items @laxu or @JCW308 reported addressed and those additional HQ models addressed I think it would be killer. But it’s pretty great as is and I think it kinda kicks the crap out of everything in its price range. Mooer, NUX, etc… aren’t there IMO. Perhaps something from Line 6 is in direct competition but for some reason L6 has never done it for me with Amps but I do have a One because some of their effects are great. Anyway, I’m rambling but last night was just great! Niggles aside, it’s hard to put a price tag on that.

That good news because I think the HQ amps and verbs were using a ton of cpu prior
Perhaps the addition of the CPU meters was because they were working on that and optimization, if they can get another handful of amps and FX in HQ in the next update and lower CPU on the tone catches that would be a pretty big win I think
