...it looks pretty cool? 👉👈
Definitely like it better than the Purple limited edition myself.
Sure, but it's just a very particular color combination. If you want to use gold text etc then I think there's a lot of other colors that pair better with it.

IMO the shades of color Line6 has picked for their limited edition models have never been particularly great. Too bright, or the wrong shade.

Agree. I have a purple Stomp because I got a cheaper B-stock with full warranty, not for the fantastic color…

Re: Colors
I think anything like black or white isn't looking good as soon as the units are switched on, simply because other colors aren't exactly in harmony with the LED rings and screen colors. White and blue LEDs are fine with the red version, but the other colors make it look kinda cheapish.

I saw the latest Helix video by @GuitarJon where he sets up a basic metal preset, got inspired and created a new preset from scratch on my HX Stomp to play around with my new Light Pedal. Added the Oblivion, an IR block, FX loop block for the physical pedal, a stereo dual delay and then a stereo ambience reverb with high mix. For extra noodling I also put in a Clarity amp and A/B switching between them. Fiddled a bit with Clarity but stock settings on Oblivion. Insanely fast and insanely good sounding! Spent 5-10 minutes on the preset and then an hour just playing and getting to know my new pedal (which is so much fun).

So a reminder: don’t overlook the Line6 original amps!

Looks like Steph is using the new Uberschalls, so I won't expect a Helix preset.

Unless Line 6 wants to flex those Bogner switch muscles some more.

I finally got around to finding a set of sounds for my ES-335. Placater Dirty is unsurprisingly handling anything crunch and heavier (not really doing much metal/high gain with this guitar) - but that wasn't the hardest part for me -- it was finding a clean to mid gain amp I like. My usual suspects weren't really doing it for me, the GSG, A30, 2203. Some of the Fender models got pretty close for me but the low end was never balanced quite right for me - either too shrill for the bridge or too muddy for the neck.

Matchstick Ch1 saves the day! I've often overlooked this model because the Essex A30 always treats me nicely but the top end was just a little too over-the-top. At about 15 seconds into this Motown-style lead noodle I switch from a Clean with compressor to EOB Snapshot with compressor off.

modeling needs so much pre gain mid cut, tube clipping is scooped af in the physical realm, dsp sounds so stuffy to me
From the Helix Manual:

Why Does Helix Sound [insert descriptor here]?
Like most guitarists, you’re probably used to the sound and feel of real tube amps. So are we. Musicians instinctually understand that a roaring 4x12 cab pointing at the back of their knees sounds and feels totally different from a pair of plastic PA speakers (or even high-quality studio monitors) pointing at their face. Yet some may blame their multieffects box for this disparity. Like any other device without built-in speakers, Helix is completely at the mercy of what you plug it into. Your playback system has a massive impact on the sound and feel of your tone, and if Helix appears to sound thin, tubby, boxy, harsh, dull, [stuffy], or some other less-than-ideal adjective, the first thing to scrutinize is your playback system.

There’s also nothing wrong with bypassing the Helix cab or IR blocks and running it into a flat power amp and real wooden cab; digital magic will never convince anyone their 6" computer speakers are a wall o’ stacks. Your tone is only as good as the weakest link in your chain, and understand that given identical playback systems, Helix amp modeling is designed to be virtually indistinguishable from the real thing.

One thing I’m sorely missing in Helix these days is a good tube power amp emulation. Right now if you want to integrate an outboard guitar preamp you’re out of luck at achieving anything amp-like.

A Mesa 2:90 or VHT power amp emulation would be all most of us need to close that loop.

There are too many amazing floor based preamps out there these days to not at least have SOME kind of support for those types of rigs. Right now I’m having to fallback to Tonex because Helix doesn’t have a solution.

If Helix supported NAM I’d just make my own capture.

Sometimes I wonder if using the Archon Clean amp channel, maybe with sag=0 and bright switch off, could be close a power amp emulation. Maybe some savvy users (@James Freeman🙃) could help us to learn other tricks to get a kind of power amp block with our Helix.

I did exactly that, and James made his own version of it earlier in this thread, posts 515 and 516
