Friedman IR-J (Jake E Lee?)

I am sorry, but he came across as insufferably self-absorbed. And he was sitting next to a Rock Star. :idk

It was bad. I plowed through the entire thing, too.

I can't recall how many times Jake was like, "Anyways..... " ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jake E Lee can stand V30s. :banana

We are clearly homies from way back.

My wife is from Dallas so we're here for 2 weeks to catch up with them. Since the flight from Australia went through LA we took the chance to spend a few days there.

I think people that like the IR-X and IR-D are going to really like the IR-J, it's Badlands in a box.

I haven’t watched tone talk in a while but he’s been plenty engaged in everything else. Maybe he’s got family in Florida he’s keeping tabs on? I dunno. I’ll have to finish watching to see if I can get myself that worked up.

My only experience with Dave is through customer service whenever I have a question about one of his amps. He replies pretty fast and getting an answer from the company owner/designer himself is the definition of standing behind his products.

The podcast is cool too. He may not have the "sunny disposition" of some other YT guys but in terms of actual information that show is hard to beat.
Even this episode with Jake, they got pretty good insight into his gear, playing etc... more so than I've seen on other Jake interviews over the years. So idk, while I don't have a lot of Friedman products (only the IR-D at this point, I just sold the DS 20w), I have no issues with him.

Yeah I don't see anything worth getting worked up about. It's a 3 hour podcast and it looked like he sent one text towards the end.

The insight you get on these shows is pretty awesome because he gets good guests and gets them talking. And Dave knows his stuff so when he goes deep on the technical side you're getting a lot more info than if some random YouTuber was interviewing an amp builder.

Yeah, I am still so deeply bothered by it all.

I still stand by my comments. Really could care less if no one else sees them that way. :idk

My overriding point is focus on your guest. Period. It's a respect thing that many kids learn
in Kindergarten.... or from a decent family and upbringing. Dave and Mark have duo shows |
where it is just them and they have no guests and it is all about Dave. When you do have a
guest there for a limited time make it about them----who wants to hear Dave's tales about
this, that, and the other thing and often have nothing to do with music, the guest, or the products
being discussed. Maybe you do.

I also tend to get bored and disinterested when my friends get intoxicated and ramble,
so it is nothing personal against Captain Friedman. :beer

Did the tone talk episode discuss how the plexi based IRX channel 1 will differ from the plexi based IR-J ch 1 will differ?

Also, will the IR-J have the new firmware Ownhammer IR’s etc?

I still feel I owe Dave an amp purchase because all my dumbass drunken questions I used to e-mail him in my drinking days, including such hits as "I really like this Peavey XXL head but it's solid state, would you be able to mod it into a tube amp?" when the XXX, a tube-version of the XXL already existed and it's a dumb request to begin with.

I also probably sent him like 10 emails asking him to detail the effects rack he made for Layne Staley's live vocal chain.

I personally wouldn’t say I’m bothered by it but it does take some of the possibilities of the conversation being better and that I notice and it’s mildly disappointing.

They didn't discuss the IR-X vs IR-J channel 1. But he did say it has the new firmware and the Ownhammer cabs. There's even a new IR based on a 4x12 with EVs, since that's what Jake used with Ozzy.
The boost circuit has also been redesigned and its a Tube Screamer style boost on the IR-J, vs the Micro Amp style boost of the X and D.

Many thanks for the info!
Tube screamer boost …iiinnteereesting!!
Can’t wait for the sound reviews.

A friend of mine sent me the new IR's from the latest update, they sound absolutely killer in my Axe-Fx.

I exported those and it's interesting, the new Ownhammer IR's are 40kb where the originals are 16kb, so likely longer samples?
