Friedman IR-J (Jake E Lee?)

The 3 way switches for gain structure and brightness are hardwired to actual components. The bright switch selects 3 different bright caps (100pf, 1kpf and 4.7kpf if I recall correctly). These are actual caps on the board. The structure switch turn tube gain stages on/off. They're not connected to the software at all.
The IR switch is connected to the software.
Sorry, I wasn't clear with my question. I am referring to the Presence and Deep parameters in the editor. These are both knobs on the Twin Sister that affect the power amp section.

Ah OK sorry. The power amp parameters are all digital. The IR-D preamp is the same as the amp up to the tone stack. From the effects send (which is the preamp out) it goes into a converter then everything after it is digital.

Until I see actual evidence to the contrary, the Friedman IR pedals are all analog preamp circuitry, with a real 12AX7 tube. The IR obviously and likely the power amp modeling are digital.

You can't store the parameters of the knobs because they are analog. The preamp switches like brightness and gain are switching analog components as well.

The IR switch changes the digital selector for the IR, and you can change that in the software. You can also toggle on/off digital controls like IR on/off, effects loop on/off, and the power amp presence/thump controls.

That is how they were described in the promotional materials.

12 pages of this thread and no one has actually tried one?? Mine ships today, stay tuned for review video! :rawk Owned the X and the BE ch was way too dark and compressed -like a BE. This should be a good solution for no cab on stage gigging coupled with my Fm3 in the 4cm

A lot of us have. I had one briefly but returned it because I liked my IR-D better, which I'm still using. I posted about it in this thread.

Hello everyone. First post on this website. Long time guitarist here but I'm just starting to get back into the world of guitar pedals. A lot has surfaced since I last came up for air.

I just ordered a dual preamp pedal but I also want to get the IR-J. Would it be ok to run the preamp pedal into the IR-J? I'm not necessarily wanting to combine the overdriven sounds of both units but I'm wondering if it would work well to run the preamp pedal I bought into a clean sound on the IR-J and then to the power amp and cab simulators. I wouldn't be buying the IR-J just for this duty. I like the sound of it as is. Just wondering if I could also use it the way I described.

Yes, absolutely.

What's the preamp? If it has a line level output, it will probably be too much for the IR-J input. But you could still plug it into the fx loop return and use the power amp and cab IR.

If the preamp has an instrument level output, then plugging in front of the IR-J should be fine.
