Friedman IR-J (Jake E Lee?)

I wonder why they didn't follow the Synergy lead and add a Sag knob to these pedals instead of the app only thump control? Interested to hear the difference if any between the two

I like how Pete says he's doing mid gain to clean stuff because everyone else would be doing high gain and everyone else has basically been playing dad rock while reviewing it.

Haha reminds me of Wrestlemania “Let’s use this in a modern high gain context” proceeds to play 30 year old Dream Theater riffs. (Not that there is anything wrong with that)

Wondering if the lead channel on this one is a little less refined/smooth compared to the IR-X. I like the IR-X, but I'm missing the raw pissed off sound from some other M-style amps.
I think that's common with Friedman amps in general, they do sound more polished and smoother than actual Marshalls. The JEL is supposed to be the rawer sounding amp of their line. How that translate to the IR-J remains to be seen. I'm getting mine tomorrow so I'll find out lol

I've debated trying a PT V2 head for the same train of thought, but perhaps a Marshall is the better route. I had a Runt 20 and felt like the IR-X was similar (enough) compared to it.

now we just need the Steve Stevens V2 IR-S. ,amiright?

I hope someone shoots this out against an IR-X. I already have the IR-X and while I like it, on paper I’m more of a 2203 guy than a Plexi guy. Getting an IR-J would mean waiting for 2-4 weeks (at least) here in India, and I don’t want to get it and realise that I like the IR-X more because returns don’t exactly work here 😅

Non-Marshall player here, the three Friedman IR- pedals basically look the same to me... modded Plexi, modded Plexi, modded Plexi :bag

educate me?
Well in the case of the IR J modified plexi/modified 800 but to me it's always sounded meaner and more aggressive than Friedman's other amps. I remember in an interview with Jake he said Friedman's thing reminded him of the EVH brown sound and that wasn't his thing.

I got mine today. It's pretty good but I think I prefer the IR-D.
To be fair, I've had the IR-D for a while and have it really dialed in.
If I had to compare the two I'd say the J has more midrange and it's more open sounding. The D is more compressed and darker.
Both are really cool pedals but I think I'll stick with the IR-D.
