Fractal Talk

Now all I need is even just one of the following amp models and my Fractal world will be complete:
  • /13 JRT 9/15
  • Benson Monarch
  • Bad Cat Cub
  • Matchless Lightning
  • Top Hat Club Royal
We’re so badly lacking in low watt boutique amp models.

I would also settle for the clean channel of the Hot Cat

I still need to get a killer high gain tone going on, but so far I’m stacking the Timmons drive into the Suhr Riot LED and it’s almost satisfying the itch.
The one thing that still seems to be missing from the list of Fractal drives is a killer high gain pedal emulation.

I really wish they'd include one based on the Megalith Delta pedal. That thing is killer and between the Contour knob and EQ Shift three position switch has several very useful tone sculpting options. Plus, the bass is solid and tight even up to 2:00 which in my experience is hard to find in a gain pedal.

What would you get from one of those that can’t be had with one of the existing models? There’s at least six or so apps in there already that overlap with these a lot. Just curious what you think is lacking as far as tones/feels in the existing lineup.

I’ve yet to find a killer high gain pedal that didn’t have a list of caveats. Granted, I’ve never played that particular one either.

I’ll take a Monarch! 👍🏼

Great thing about the Monarch (pre recent power-scaling version) in terms of component modelling, is that it's a very simple amp circuit like most of the Benson amps. There's also schematics online, various DIY build threads and gut shots.

It almost seems silly to include high gain pedals with so many high gain amp offerings, but for this particular application of running into the front end of an amp, I definitely wouldn't mind a 5150 pedal tossed in there!

The only High Gain Dirt Box I remotely have liked. :chef

I still think (shocking!) amps are the way to go when it
comes to 5 cascading gain stages.

The only sub-20 watt boutique amp in the whole thing right now is the Maz 8.And there are no AC15 derivatives.

The JRT is an octal preamp with a very unique feel and tone, the Monarch is its own thing, and the Bad Cat and Matchless are both essentially boutique AC15s

The Cub or the Lightning would be my first choice as I love boutique AC15s and we don’t have that.

I’ve thought this as well, it seems like a really easy win for Fractal:

  • Super simple/minimal circuit to model
  • So popular they can’t build them fast enough to meet demand
  • No other modeler has one

What would they give you that the current ac15s or 30 or boutique ac30s don’t though? What’s the sound you can’t get? I’m not being difficult, I’m genuinely curious. I thought those sounds were really well covered already.

Boutique stuff is usually trying to sound like a great vintage amp, and we’ve got quite a pile of those right now plus a few boutiques. The swart atomic, a Gibson scout, the maz, quite a few small watt fenders. Just curious what you can’t get from those, seems like they would cover that spectrum pretty thoroughly.

I would guess the clean channel of the Hot Cat is the most doable since they already have one.
