Fractal Talk

That’s the recommended approach for dialing the Mark amps (from the Mesa manuals): Start with tone controls at zero, bring up the treble to taste, then midrange, then bass.
But if there's no sound how do you know what it tastes like :idk

But seriously I'm not sure you need to have zero sound with them all off for this method to work. Also, how I taste the treble will change when I bring in some mids and bass.

Fair point. The fender style tonestack mesa amps use wastes the entire signal to ground (= silence) if all the tone knobs are zeroed.

Are you running all of these through the same cabinet and speakers though?

It’s pretty easy to make clean models sound near identical if you hold the CAB block steady.

I'm sure that's true.

But to me, the question isn't can you "make clean models sound near identical" but do they sound identical using the same settings, or more importantly, do they sound identical with settings you'd normally use with that amp?

It's really two very different questions.

Most of us have experienced dialing in amps with gain to our own preferences and ending up with tones that sound very similar because we like what we like and do what we can to get that sound. But that doesn't mean that all medium or high gain amps sound the same either.

It's like saying all of Ola's clips sound the same. To me they do but I'm not a chug player so whatever differences there are aren't readily apparent to me.

Just watched Cooper Carter's latest G66 video on getting a great Recto tone, and I gotta say, for Fractal owners, he is a treasure!!

Just watching how he goes through creating a preset is SO beneficial to using a Fractal product, and tapping into its full potential. His old video in which he dialed in all these tones of cover songs is a big reason why I opted to buy an Axe III in the first place.

If you own a Fractal and have never seen him work, you should check him out!

He dials it in, then posts a link to the free preset too! Here's the video:

Wow!! that is awesome I also saved the MIMIQ Doubler Block to use on any preset i choose, sounds Awesome
Blocks are the shitz !!

You’ll want to grab a copy of the controller settings as well. Those are essential to having the mimiq clone function properly.

They are built in to the Block when you save all the parameters I believe

Had a rip with FW25b here. Sounds slamming.

That’s sounds crazy good
The 2203 is insane
I definitely can hear a difference in the low end and low the overall pick attack
It’s tighter with more clarity
There is also a more noticeable upper mid grind vs some of the older firmware which to my ears seemed to be more focused on the low mids and at times sounded a bit congested

The gain structure seems to be changed and more open less compressed , I think that perhaps is why I am seeing comments about less gain
It is clearer so perhaps that is what is translating to less perceived gain

Just for a change ;) Leon knocks it out of the park ! :) Aussie Aussie Aussie ... ... ... !!!

I know a lot of people have been wanting Clips demonstrating FW 24 vs FW 25 ... but from what Cliff has described the changes to be ... and they apparently aren't small ... its hard to imagine "the value" of setting up Pre-set A in FW 24 and then the identical Pre-set B in FW 25 ... as by definition, they are going to sound very different at the same settings -and- the FW 25 Pre-set will almost certainly require a degree of tweaking to get it to sound "comparatively" like FW 24 (?) ... kind of maybe a pointless exercise (?)

I reckon more relevant would be to hear a tweaked-to-preference FW 24 Amp -vs- the same tweaked-to-preference FW 25 Amp.

Just a thought.

That FW thread is the most confusing one I've ever read.

Soft/hard reset, if I call/recall an amp, or use a different one, does it retain the settings of the last amp I used? What If I make a preset from scratch, why does the amp use the defaults? Wait, sometimes it doesn't? Why is that?

Makes me wonder if presets I've only tweaked are using old algorithms.

I'm quickly falling into "Fractal is too damn complicated" camp. Fuck it. I'll leave my shit alone. Sounds good enough for me, as is.

Seriously.

The differences in the amp tones reminds me of this:

I have no set in stone presets that I’ve perfected so I’ll adjust after the update.
I will say that thread does make my head spin
though.
I’ll just

That’s why I avoid beetas.
Yeah, but I don't think it has anything to do with being a beta; I haven't seen any bug reports.

I think it's because it's yet another amp modeling change, which brings up all this confusing soft/hard reset crap, and then something about, even if you grab a new amp for a 'made-from-scratch' preset, it retains old settings. WHAT? :bonk:bonk:bonk

I think someone said even if you make a new preset, and want the new algorithms, you need to do a hard reset. But didn't I just DO that by choosing a new amp?

See, I'm confused. But fortunately, I don't really care this time around, cuz I'm really getting to feel, How much better can it really be?
