Fractal Talk

The way I see it, let the developers worry about accuracy and us users would be better off just being concerned with "Do I like how it sounds/feels? Does it work for my usecases?" type stuff.
Accuracy doesn’t just depend on the tech being right, but also how the user uses it. If the user is (perhaps unknowingly) using the model differently to how it’s been tested, the accuracy can’t really be guaranteed.

So I think it’s good to trust the developer, but also, to spend time working out how to get the best results for your needs.

Eh, a solo as timeless as that I can't perceive as anything but perfect. That's just feel, the southern drawl of guitar playing and letting those notes last as long as they need to. That was the hardest part of the solo to get and why I feel I only got it about 80% after spending 2 weeks on it, Zakk can hang out and let a note ride without even worrying about where he's going next, I don't even take my shoes off to get comfy.

I think what you're hearing at 4:59 is the doubled guitar coming in and it's not perfect with the main lead track.

Haha Loved it Drew, and Yes I agree it was worthy of the Signature Pick Toss

A lot of guitar tones are designed to work in the Mix

If Cliff and company go through all this trouble, hard work, research, testing, comparing its not for naught
almost every time there has been tonal updates since ive had my FM9 ive noticed it, is it night and day ? no, but its enough for me to say hell ya thats what im talking about, a lot of these tonal updates are about feel and and how they react to your playing
But thats me

YMMV
Unless you are doing legit A/B tests that big hit of 'moer realer' is just a big hit of placebo.

Some folks in FAS land do legit A/Bs by reamping old vs new. This is why some folks complain when the accuracy is improved, the improved accuracy is actually improving accuracy of some stuff that is undesirable for some things (like distortion in the power section as the master goes up).

Everyone else is just surfing novelty.

Some thoughts on the FW updates/pace: Having ridden the FAS train since the Ultra days; for me personally, FW updates never move the needle for me any more. I'm sure it is more accurate and it is cool to read the notes, as a technical person, on what Cliff is chasing down now, but really the 'big stuff' is so 'there' for my personal standards that these minor inaccuracies that get tracked down would never have been deal breakers for me. If Cliff did not document what he was changing and what to look for I would likely not be able to identify the change.

From my perspective, the SIC stuff was very noticeable, the Dynacab thing was much bigger for me than I expected, massive.

But, core modeling accuracy updates have generally been no-ops for me in terms of whether they are impacting my perception of how enjoyable/useful the models are to use and how they A/B vs my amps.

I do think this never ending cycle of updates is necessary for FAS as a company and it is good that Cliff is driven to keep on keepin' on when things are already so amazeballs... There *are* folks who notice more than me or have higher standards for the accuracy of certain aspects of things (ex: @James Freeman ) or who are prone to detailed A/Bing; that some of this might legitimately matter to them in their usage.

But for me, it is usually: How does this new rev sound compared to my amps? Great as usual? Awesome...

Anyway, long way of saying, digital has largely passed point of diminishing returns for me personally, which is great. And also kind of sucks because I am no longer psyched for anything new, TBH. I used to be jacked at the thought of the next new modeler/product/paradigm/game changer; now, whatever.

Nonetheless it'll be fun to load this once the beta is done (not gonna bother with non-release updates) and eat my words.
