Fractal Talk

One guy was offended that he could not delete posts and said that is crap and went so far as actually changing his user name to get rid of history ,

Years ago a very well known member asked that his post be deleted after a particularly rancorous exchange. His posts were in the five figures.

The owners agreed to do it but afterwards said they would no longer delete posts. My guess is it was because they felt he had provided valuable and informative content that was lost after the deletion and they didn't want it to become a trend.

This is my Fractal wish list right now:

#1 give the drive pedals some love

I don’t know what it is, but the drive pedals just don’t stack well. They seem to sit on top of each other and build up rather than behaving naturally.

It’s always hard to do the “pedal platform” thing inside Fractal.

#2 make it easier to control parameters between Scenes

Take a look at how Line 6 does it and give us that. This is so much harder to do in Fractal than it should be

#3 more low watt cathode biased amps

Recently it seems like all the new amps are always high wattage high gain rock/metal amps.

There are so few sub 20 watt cathode biased options in Fractal and it would really be nice to give us some more

Bad Cat Cub
Matchless Lightning
Top Hat Club Deluxe
Divided by 13 JRT
Benson Monarch/Chimera
Etc.

These amp options are seriously lacking in Fractal land

I don’t think English is his primary language, so he gets a pass for that one. The problem with that thread was that the member who was overly concerned with the potential for hearing damage was a bit too aggressive in the presentation of his concerns, which resulted in an aggressive response. A simple “Hey, I deal with hearing loss for a living, so I hope you are taking appropriate measures of hearing protection when dealing with those volume levels.” This shows care without sounding like a scolding nanny, and things would have likely been fine.
So this was too aggressive...

"Permanent hearing damage with sustained exposure to say 80db and above, with immediate permanent hearing damage experienced at 115db+, just sayin..."

Horses for courses but my experience with the drive pedals couldn’t be more polar opposite from this. I’ve been stacking them for years and the overhaul they got in firmware 20.00 or so made that even better. Serial TS808s sound amazing and just like my TS9s IRL with few tweaks now.

I don’t have any issues stacking drives, but it does seem I have to carve some mids out of them to get them playing together how I’d expect. Could just be me and the way mids follow me everywhere, though.

+1

Is wat I do too. Usually the Klon with a TS, SD or whatever. Sounds great and natural.

For me, no it’s not at all. But for the OP, it apparently was. As was his reaction to your posts. And things went south from there.

But here’s the thing: If you’re going to engage with someone who doesn’t understand why he’s getting feedback at insane volume levels, the chances are pretty good that the discussion is going to end up with at least one of the parties involved extremely frustrated.

Well after he called me a liar and my numbers made up, while insisting that soldiers don't get hearing damage sans hearing protection, and that there's no such thing as >197db (which is true for a unclipped pressure wave due to atmospherics, however the SPL level can increase above that clipped which is what I mentioned), you get the idea...

That’s about the point where there was no question that you were dealing with an emotionally driven person (as opposed to a rational thinker), and the alarm bells were going off.

The problem I have is when stacking 2-3 drives together. They seem to sort of sit on top of each other and build up. Not the way I’m used to these drives pairing IRL

That’s exactly what I mean, that shouldn’t be necessary. That’s not how real drive pedals stack.

Oddly enough it was much earlier in conversation
The good old 122 db and a tweeter in the amp next to him sold me

Interesting. I've never done more than two drives at once. IRL or in the Fractal gear.

It will be interesting to see what Fractal comes up with next firmware, long quiet.
I'd like to see the 3khz whine fixed, but I'm quite happy with the platform overall.

I found that the active xlr ohtput of the x-load is quite hissy, so I use[d] the passive 1/4" output with a passive DI box to prevent ground loops but I found that passive DI bixes cut some low end.
I bought an active DI box with the hope it will be quieter than the native active xlr output of the x-load. For now I use the passive 1/4" output which is quieter but also has ground noises, so it's a compromise, until the active DI box arrives.

Are we talking about the same thing? The 3K whine is on the X-Load, not the Axe-FX?
