Fractal Talk

[Back to Fractal talk] Noob question, what amp model and IR/dyna cab should I choose to get the Sum 41 'Fatlip' guitar sound? Here's the song . especially for the intro (start at 0:30 ) and the verse at 0:39

I’d be all up in the Marshalls for that. A lower gain JVM channel or even the JCM800. I’d start there and tweak a Dynacab to taste, the way you might go about getting that sound and how you want it to feel while playing it could be different from everyone else and I find that area is better off as a DIY thing.

90s pop-punk was very often either Marshall Plexi/JCM800 (e.g. Green Day) or Mesa Rectos (e.g. Offspring, Blink 182). Greenback cab with a 57/121 combo. For the intro part to Fat Lip, roll back your guitar volume a bit.

Is anyone in front of their FM whatever right now? If so; can you tell me if you can attach a modifier to the input block and pan from left to right? I don't think you can but just in case I might be dumb

Intro Guitar JCM800, heavy bits Dual Rec.

Intro sounds mic'd pretty close to centre to get that attack right. Probably cant go wrong with Mesa OS V30's here.

Isn’t that essentially an FM9? Which you already have?

:rofl
Let me Gasp you up.

FM9 on it's own is great. Love it. But it's big. And if you want to add anything else to it; it becomes cumbersome, imo. The FM3 for me is a Stomp replacement. Post fx and routing that will sit on top of my amp with the GM on a small board. I can bring the FC12 with me or just the FC6, connect my expression pedal and have a couple of different available footprints to control it all with, depending on how big the "stage" is.

The 9 and the FM3 seem to be on the same update cycle. So it serves a completely different purpose from the III which will stay at home and be the center of the cr@ckhub.
:love

Totally agree. But the FM9 fits perfectly in the Helix Backpack and I'm tempted to toss a nano board with my fuzz pedals in the front pouch for funsies

Ah, the sitting on top of your amp makes it all clearer. In effect, you're treating it as a quasi "mini-rack" that you pair with the floor controller of your choice...right?

^this really got me rethinking the PS100 the other day. I am admittedly Influenceable AFTM :facepalm :rofl

Gigging the III in the rack and having it all packed in had me thinking on the open gear concept where I can access all the knobs and levels I need to tweak volumes/mixes of things on the fly. That small FM/GM board on top of a PS would be KILLER rig in a small package.
