Fractal Talk

Do we have a feedbacker yet?

No, but there is this.

If you haven't seen this, you should check it out. It's a way to get simulated feedback. Here's Leon's video:

And here's the original thread over at FAS:

What you said makes sense, and shouldn’t be controversial. It’s not a slight to say that the FMx devices are updated at a slower cadence—it only becomes a slight (to some, maybe; not to me) when that cadence is likened to L6’s pace. ;)

I see. It feels unpleasant to have Fractal devices compared to Line6 products in a way that doesn't immediately elucidate the superiority of Fractal.

I guess for me, the difference between 4 and 13 ceases to matter when the content is nigh identical and the 4 are just consolidations of the difference.

That's a valid argument. What FAS includes in a single update per quarter is almost certainly more impactful than what Line6 includes in all three updates for the year combined. It would take a lot more ground work to go through all of the past firmware releases for the various products and compare new amps or new effects per year per device, but I am confident that level of analysis would be solidly in favor of Fractal.

For sure, but for whacky or experimental stuff, having more control over feedback could be fun.
I suppose I could also just set up a scene that maxes out the gain enhancer and switch to that. I don’t usually use enough gain to get feedback at any sound-person-friendly level. Plus, I’ve kind of maxed out my switching options on the FM3, so just engaging it will take some out-of-the-box thinking for me.

There was that one time that the FM9 got a feature before the Axe-Fx though.

Axe-Fx 3 still doesn't have the large font feature from FM9/FM3! :hmm

Precisely. Even if I posted a GIF about it, that doesn't mean I actively and actually care about
frequency of firmware insemination for each product. It generally evens out in the end. They
all get impregnated with new offspring.

Besides, shit happens when it happens, and no amount of analysis is going to change or
alter that rate. So I enjoy what I have and needle threads with GIFs, because we all need to
do something to pass the time waiting for a firmware update. Right?? :guiness

Firmware insemination and impregnation in this thread; premature ejaculation in the TMP thread...

I'm desperately trying to understand what's going on there on the Planet of La Szum right now? :wat

Also, dopamine and the pleasure we receive from it is about anticipation, not reward. As soon
as the reward comes the deflation sets in. So the FM9/FM3 crowd actually generates more dopamine
released into our brains via waiting. Doesn't it feel great knowing what is about to come our way?

Honestly, I don't see Cliff launching that type of salvo against the Neural plugins. All of the "Archetype"-style white label amps are already there (e.g. BE100, JP2C, 5150, 5153, various Marshalls). Already got a legit Mark IIC and Soldano too. Already got a Fortin Grind pedal and a bazillion modded Marshalls to cover the ground of the Fortin Cali and Nameless. The Kraken lead channel is basically 5150 too. No one cares about the Natas. I guess that leaves the Granophyre, but for such a hyped amp...I've yet to hear a recording or live performance of one demonstrating any sort of unique tone.

Wouldn't mind more synth stuff like Rabea or maybe the Henson multivoicer, but for the rest.....old news.

At this point they all cover the same ground.

You have to look at the big picture to keep things in perspective. The sole developer of the Axe 3 also happens to own the company, and it’s a company that he built from the ground up. Cliff is a highly motivated guy, and he arguably has more skin in the game than probably anybody else in the industry. Certainly way more than every single one of us end users.

Along similar lines, whenever he posts comparisons between his product and the competition, it’s not about saying “Brand X sucks.” He’s not trolling his competition (unless they are deserving of a smackdown), he is providing evidence of why his product is the one you should be buying. That’s very common salesmanship, you’ll find that if you’re shopping for cars, TVs, or any other consumer goods.
