Re: shipping damage, I'm not sure. The original issue which caused me to return it looked (IMO) like a classic intermittent fault of a borderline component or solder joint, because it only ever happened after it'd been powered on for at least a half hour, so temperature was likely a factor (but I checked the fan and could hear it working, and it had lots of airflow around it and no blocked fan port, so it wasn't due to abnormally-hot temps. Just normal self-heating.)

I doubted that it was just a ribbon cable to the screen, because not only was the screen crapping out, but the tempo LED was misbehaving and the scribble strips would sometimes go totally dark too. If it was anything cabling-related, I figured it would've been one of the other cables that connects the upper electronics to the lower ones, but not the display ribbon. This is why I was paranoid about repairing it in the first place rather than swapping it -- I've been here, done this, bought the T-shirt many times before with other electronics I've had to fix in my day job and personal life.

Regardless, I definitely don't think any less of Fractal products because of it. I still know the sounds coming out of it were awesome when it was working, and I had quickly grown to really like a LOT of things about it (even the UI for the most part). Modern electronics have a certain % failure rate that is impossible to fully eliminate. Once in a while, somebody will draw the short straw. It's a miracle that all our electronics gadgets are as reliable as they are, given the extraordinary complexity of everything nowadays. You practically can't even see some of the surface-mount stuff in modern smartphones without a microscope, and larger boards and ICs like the ones in the FM9 still have a lot going on.

This is one of many reasons why I like you. Hard to find grateful, reasonable, sensible people in the world. :beer

May good things follow you the rest of your days.

Hey thanks @la szum , that really means a lot :) :beer My best traits are stolen from my wonderful parents, who set an impeccable example day-in and day-out. My worst traits, which definitely exist, I deserve all the blame for :ROFLMAO:

i thought he wanted a replacement fm9t and not a refund? did i miss something

FAS have said that when they receive the malfunctioning FM9T, they will issue a refund for that.

In the meantime he's ordered a new FM9T. I was asking about additional refunds or credits for the extra costs of shipping that Swirly has incurred because of the failed unit, which wasn't his fault.

I agree completely with you, FWIW :)

But I've dealt with issues like this enough times in my life to know that arguing and fighting usually just leaves me more stressed, and no closer to a quick solution, so sometimes I go with the path of least resistance for my own sanity.

I don't know what the final refund amount will be. Maybe they'll sweeten the deal once all is said and done; maybe they'll refund the new purchase plus the expedited shipping cost too. I have to assume Cliff is seeing these posts, since he's been active in the thread.

I'll withhold any final judgments until I have a new one in-hand, and everything is resolved. :)
maybe just buy a tmp?

I hope this doesn’t influence your nonpurchasing decisions.
not at all. I still am not buying anything yet. But it is odd that they just didnt overnight the repaired one and then overnight a new one with a return label for the broken one. I mean they likely can fix it 110% tested and sell as b stock if needed...They wont lose really as they will make one guy happy and whpo knows how many people that one guy deals with. When cannondale was my mtb sponser if a bike had an issue they would send me a new one either direct or thru a local store i dealt with and didnt expect the old bike back- they likely wrote it off like they do with all sponserships. Of course it only happened 2x to me and 1 was a whipe out while the other someone stole my bike after a race,,

This is why I have 1000W of SS amplification going into a pair 325W speaker cabinets (at eight ohms).

Be amazed with what dynamic headroom does for your sound.
Hopefully I’m not asking you to repeat yourself, but what are the details on this rig? Stereo "FRFR" or are you running into 4x12s?
