Fractal Audio Systems VP4 - Virtual Pedalboard

Nice vid LT. Thats where it eats, post in stereo. Throw a dart with some combo of Multi-Delay, Pitch, Plex, and Reverb and it goes hard.

Guitar straight in to the JC120, onboard chorus engaged, VP4 in the stereo loop, stunningly badass clean tones…

The "32-bit" thing still irks me but they're all doing it. There isn't a converter made whose dynamic range is greater than 21 bits.

Do you have any idea how they're spinning the specs to come up with 32-bits? I remember Dave Pensado talking about ProTools having some 48-bit conguration years ago, but that sounded like nonsense to me. It seems like companies can come up with ways to justify saying anything.

The digital I/O is 32 bits. I.e., the TDM data stream has 32 bits per time slot.

It's disingenuous to advertise the converters as "32-bit" though because only 19-20 bits are usable. The rest is noise.

Powering the VP4. I know the official advice is to use the included PSU, but what is the general required draw in 4-cable-method?? Can I power it from my Zuma?

Also, can I take the feet off easily enough and put dual lock on the bottom to attach it to my board??

I'm using a OneSpot CS6 with 2 pedals plugged into it. The VP4 is plugged into the 500ma slot and I have a Whammy Riccochet plugged into a 200ma slot. I can't use my current doubler as it's somehow not the right barrel size for the VP4.

I've used this extensively since the VP4 came out and have had no problems. YMMV, but this works for me.

Truetones are different though, in that each port will take what it needs, and as long as you don’t exceed the total power of the unit, you’re fine. So it pays to make sure how your power supply works.

Yep, that's why I've always used them. Plus the guy behind TrueTone is a trip and I'm happy to support creative types like this:

Current board setup - running the VP4 in the amp effects loop primarily, but can also wire it in series with the rest of the board to the front of the amp. I change gain pedals frequently so don't bother with locking down cables underneath (excuse the mess).

The Soldano SLO Plus is pretty solid for a 2-channel drive if running into a clean amp that isn't mid scooped too much.
