Hey Steve… I’m sorry if you read here that the Swede doesn’t like you anymore. I promise I will subscribe again if you drop your drama queen thumbnail shit “that’s why i quit X brand” “that’s why i gig X brand” “that’s why im still using X brand”. Go back to the old Steve please…
Well, if it makes you happy!😊
You are basically here for our amusement. You’re a meme… a symbol, something for us to laugh at. And we love you for that. You and “30 guitars not buying shit” Timmy boy.
To expensive Tim. You ain’t paying that.

As I can’t contribute with anything but my excitement for everyone else’s sake. I give you.

I love finding gems like this:
Yes, the company is young. And we're a bit overwhelmed right now and trying to learn the whole marketing thing. I (as in my fault) didn't predict that the product would be so well received and now we're caught trying to meet demand. We don't outsource the manufacturing but many of the parts are built by CM's as is the case with most small-to-medium companies. Even most large companies now outsource their board production as it simply isn't cost-effective to maintain a surface-mount fab if you don't have the volume.

I started the company a few years ago after getting fed up with corporate America. I created all these cool products for this small sonar company in NH and the company took off, sales went up tenfold in five years. The company then got bought out by a large corporation and in thanks for everything I'd done they took away my bonus, eliminated my pension, froze my pay, reduced my benefits, made me punch a time-clock and cut my office in half.

So I quit, took my life savings and bought a bunch of test equipment, computers, software and various vintage amplifiers and set out to create the best modeler / effects unit I could because I thought the time was right and the tech was ready to do it right. I averaged over 100 hours a week for 3 1/2 years developing the Axe-Fx. I developed tendonitis from writing so much code. The unit has nearly 50,000 lines of software and countless hours of analysis that have gone into it. The modeling was done with painstaking detail.

If a unit needs service we would do that in-house. Once we get a dealer network that might change. Many distributors do repairs themselves.

The MSRP is $1495. Considering what you get, that's a deal. And that's really what we need to be charging based on our costs. We don't make thousands at a time so we don't get the volume discounts. And all the manufacturing is done domestically. If we had them made in China we could surely charge less. It's not a mass-market product. If it were it wouldn't sound as good because the accountants would be pressuring to reduce costs. We use top-of-the-line converters. Why? Because they sound better. The op-amps cost 10x what other companies would use. But they sound good.

I do it because I love it. I'm not in it to make a killing and then disappear. My fiance' and I live a very modest lifestyle and aren't into the whole material possesions thing. Fractal Audio is a way for me to do what I love and make a modest living. For me happiness is creating something and witnessing the Satisfaction others derive from it. I simply don't want to compete with the big guys because that means selling an inferior product. The Axe-Fx is what I as a guitarist have always wanted. I use it in my crappy little cover band and I have a blast with it and get tons of compliments on my tone.

I hope this has answered your questions.

Mad props. That is an awesome origin story!

Because I want Fractal's effects.
This is it.

And I'm manufacturer agnostic (almost) - I want some TC effects, I want some Line6 effects, I want some Fractal effects, I want some Boss effects, I want some Wampler pedals, I want some XYZ, etc etc etc.

This product makes perfect sense for the pedalboard + amp crowd, which I would guess is still a significant majority of the market.

@FractalAudio - any inter-operability between the Axe3 and the VP4? Can you use block presets made in one on the other for example? Could the Axe3/Axe Edit III eventually import and export VP4 presets???

I think TC should make a single button Plethora to. The 3 is attractive, the 5 is better but it’s to big. They’re great though.

I was put off fractal originally by the fan boys. When I first looked into fractal a lot of the fanboys were obnoxious, the high price in the UK vs US without the ability to try one didn't help either. I also didn't know anyone who had a fractal.

This site has helped a lot with that, mostly because Cliff's posts here are excellent and while some of you lot are fractal fanboys, you're also fanboys for a load of other products so the praise and criticism is often more balanced than most other forums.

The post above, however, absolutely makes me want to buy into a product from them. The ethos in Cliff's post is something I want to get behind.

Yup. That's why I quietly backed out of the room when I first looked into fractal. It's stupid but it put me off them for quite a while.
As much of a weapon as I can be, I've never really done the fanboi/ultra defensive thing. Ultimately when it comes to it, the listener of your music doesn't know or give a shit about what gear you've used. They just care about the final product.

I think there is probably a correllation between the people who get defensive about their gear choices, and the people whose music has very little to say.

Back to the VP4. The manual says the power requirement is 9V DC 1.3A. I'm wondering if two outputs on a Zuma would be enough to power it, or if it is wall wart time?!

The VP4 has already landed here in Bangkok. They only have one unit, but hopefully they will let me sniff it tomorrow morning. I bought my Fender FR-12 and other gear from them.

The price is 26,900 THB (around 808USD. Right now the Thai Baht is very high)

More fresh pictures at their site.

I was wondering the same thing last night. The stomp is listed as using a lot more power than it does so I'm hoping two 500ma outputs will cover it.

I like that it’s “inverted” or how to say it… you place it where the outlet. What I don’t like about it is that when i cut the hedge… i managed to cut the cable a few times. A few times was enough to convert to battery hedge cutter….

I do my best to contribute to the thread

My wife did that with our hedge trimmer twice and lawn mower once. I kept coming home from work and she'd say "it was a nice day, I thought it'd be a nice surprise. I had an accident though but yay I'm not dead" :rofl
