Fractal Audio Firmware Update Thread

Cool comments :)

I guess my thinking was based on C.C's - to me at least - seemingly "very annoyed" / almost "angry" reaction to the KPA LP release.

So to me, it seemed / felt like this was something of significance to Fractal and something they [too] thought was really worth implementing (?) ..... not of course at the expense of their core modeling approach.

It's kind of murky waters. Christoph Kemper has talked about updating the tone stack to closer match the actual amps many times, going back over ten years, so it's basically an update on their approach to things. Fractal has been running on a parallel path with a different approach, but similar end results.

I think that all of the different units out there have matured to the point that there really isn't anything any one of them could do that would cause any grief for their competitors.

I don’t think I have the Master higher than 3 on my main JCM800 preset, I just boost it with a Drive and do it like they did back in the day!
4 here, but yeah that's the way! Funny thing with the 2204/03 is how you can tune the treble response with the preamp gain pot, thanks to the bright cap on it.

One thing I appreciate about Fractal's approach to modeling is how much it's taught me about dialing in amps.

Learning that a JCM800 Bright cap interacts with the gain control in a particular way or that the tone stack on a Mark series amp is pre-gain are far more useful pieces of information than whether capture 69A or 420X in a given vendors profile pack are the ones with the secret mojo.

Hahaha not at all, I’m down on the bottom, right side of Florida, the hurricane hit the armpit on the top, left side. We didn’t even get the rain they said we’d get!
I got smacked with a tropical storm that resulted in a few tornadoes but nothing wild. Glad it worked out for you!

Thoughts, re the discussion on captures: The primary value of captures to me, personally, is to capture MY H/W at MY settings and then I can treat that thing as a block in the signal chain of my small portable digital device and do a bunch of stuff with it. I only have to shoot about 2-4 caps per device. I really do not struggle with wanting like a 100 settings on one amp or something.

Any other folks captures/packs/etc that just do not completely suck is icing. When I'm in the mood to sift through other's stuff I will give a few a go.

I think that 'virtualization' of physical hardware -> digital signal chain element ; has been part of the appeal for touring pros who pick Kemper or QC over trying to get 'their sound' from a virtual amp model like the Fractal. It can do it, of course, but why bother if some other thing can just grab a profile from my 'real' amp that is sitting here?

To some user who is 100% digital but is trying to collect 'all the tones'; the capture devices are going to be frustrating due to all these data management/single snapshot issues other people are citing here, unless they are willing to slog through it, like IRs, to form their base of goto sounds... so, I think a lot of which paradigm a user prefers depends on the user's priorities/application.

I think most people going Fractal want the world-class virtual amp model thing. I think capturing would add value, for sure, but I don't think anyone would want it to distract FAS from trying to push the component thing to the very limits like they have been.

What state are you in? I feel like I knew this at one point.

Did your tornadoes touch ground? We get these little air tornadoes, they’re maybe 15 feet long, they almost look like those toy rockets you used to pull a ripcord and they’d spin in the air; they’ll start close to the ground then shoot up and hover around before dispersing. They never really do anything but give the news a reason to say we had tornadoes.

I'm in NC at the moment. I seem to move quite often so no worries at all!

I'm not really sure tbh. The weather radio made it seem like they did but it very well could have been the scenario you described. It honestly wasn't too bad as I think the storm pushed north of us more than expected

You forgot your income taxes.

Mine in the USA? 28%

Finland …. Not 28%

Will depend a lot on what you earn, mine is around 30% actually. But salaries here are lower than US at least in my field (web development).

My consulting colleague in Helsinki pays >60%, making less than me. Could barely afford a car much less the gas to run it. Two kids. Maybe it’s just him.

I don't think you can even have that high tax rate here unless that number includes something else too. Even if you earn several million euros a year you'd still be <50%.

Helsinki has become ridiculously expensive though.

Hmmnn … the Internet seems to disagree with you saying that the average Finnish income tax rate is 56.95%
